Rugby World Cup 2019

The Japan and Ireland games are still at risk,

A nil all draw would see Japan at the top of the group and thus our QF opponents. A better prospect with a more predictable outcome.

Muchy much better than Ireland (although I think we have the beating of them as well).

C'mon Modjadji, do your thing...

Kind of ends up ok but England and France def score by not playing that grudge match which would of been a hard game,

Nice rest for both of the teams leaves them fresh for the quarters.. What a stupid concept that there is no contingency plan

If both Ireland and Japan games are cancelled it would suit Japan more as they would need to field their strongest team against Scotland with risk of injury whereas Ireland can play a 2nd string side.

Looks like Ireland will play:

From World Rugby's Press Release:

Games looked at:

Friday: Australia and Georgia in Shizuoka, played as scheduled.

Saturday: Ireland and Samoa in Fukuoka, played as scheduled; New Zealand and Italy cancelled; England and France cancelled.

As for Sunday's games, which include the crucial Japan v Scotland encounter, "every effort is being made to ensure (they) will be played as scheduled".

A final decision will be made on Sunday morning, World Rugby said.

If I was Italy u would be pissed off. 4 try win could have seen them going through. A slim chance maybe.. But still.. You never know what will happen on the day. A physical game could see tempers flared and 14 against 15 suddenly etc etc

For anyone that might question the reason why matches were called off, please see the video above and many other on Youtube of what a full strength typhoon looks like.

This one is set to be the strongest storm of the 2019 Storm season, so not a little thunderstorm we are talking about. You don't want any fans or players out in the open in these conditions.

W.R.T. holding the game at another venue or on another day: These were the terms and conditions set out for the tournament, which everyone accepted beforehand, so would be unfair on the teams that "benefit" in this case if the rules are suddenly changed.

Imagine the uproar if the Japan game can't take place, which under current rules mean they progress, but instead the organizers decide to play the game the following day at a different venue and they lose and don't proceed. This would be unfair on Japan.

Fair enough that they can't change the rules at this point. But it doesn't make sense to me that you organise a World Cup in typhoon season with no back-up plan in place.

Given that typhoons hit Japan every year during this time what was there seriously no risk management plan beyond holding thumbs and hope they get lucky with the weather?

If Scotland gets kicked out of the WC this weekend because they can't play their game I can only imagine there will be a massive fallout and for the next WC there will be contingency plans put in place, but would it really have taken a genius to figure this out before it happened?

Ya ney, i can't imagine if the boks were in that position after just 1 loss like we had in out first game.

Also i think the Scots are ready to give the Japs a decent sending off.

It would really be a dampening on this world cup so far if that game doesn't go ahead and the Scots are forced home.

Scotland rugby are investigating whether they could sue World rugby if the game is not played.

IT would be sad if the game is canned as I believe Scotland have the beating of japan. Which in itself is sad as that would mean boks play Ireland.

Scotland vs Japan will/would be a very tight game... home ground advantage just about evens the two teams up i reckon. If the Scots leave another World Cup for the wrong reasons they would have every right to be absolutely fuming...

I don't think anyone questions calling off games for Typhoons, but where is the contingency plans. It's negligence to not have options when they knew full well it was Typhoon season.

This is a World Cup planned a decade in advance
