Driving in Joburg is a pleasure. That Allandale rd can get quite interesting, and when there’s load shedding things get a bit crazy. But it’s 10x better than CT. People are just next level useless here.

Rome and Colombo’s traffic has been the worst I’ve been in, but didn’t came close to Main reef rd without any traffic light working.

True. I use Uber often in Jhb, no worries. But in CT it's like the drivers are on acid.

Because they still experienced a close encounter first hand that sounds like it could've been avoided had they kept a safe following distance... A donation would show empathy and sincerity from the company's side.

They don't need to show empathy or sincerity, they were not in the wrong - they allegedly took every reasonable step expected of them. They passed cyclists safely and within the bounds of the law which is supported by the alleged account of other cyclists.

Because some chop created a dangerous situation out of safe one, and then lost his cool, the effected party must now pay? For being in the wrong place at the wrong time? By that account if your car is parked in a designated parking spot and a passing cyclist cycles into it (yest this has happened to me), you should then also donate to some cycling related educational cause because if your car hadn't been parked there nothing would've happened.

This thread is toxic.

Please close it.

Go ride your bikes.

Matter is resolved, Cupcakes.

Have to agree. Surprised that admin has not done so already. Nothing more to be said unless we're waiting for Apologies from the quick on the draw Lynch mob that flew into motorist.

It might be nice to hear that the cyclist has ultimately honoured the agreement drawn up at the Cop Shop before this one is locked off. Who knows, part of his public apology might involve a sense of what motivated him that day (beyond the PTSD aspect)?

I think an important lesson for all to learn here, is that cyclists are not always the victims, and that they have an obligation to conduct themselves correctly too.

Agreed

We should also not be distracted from the main issue that our roads are unsafe for cyclists due to motorists generally not understanding their obligations and not having sufficient knowledge of the law. This one incident shouldn’t be used as ammunition to fuel further anti cyclist hatred on our roads. Cyclists still to stand together and back each other. And help the guilty to be better cyclists and motorists.

Send a pm to i24 if you want a discussion over this as it was his post that you queried initially. If you don't care to teach people who are in the wrong, you don't deserve to enjoy the benefits of a smarter society. I have no interest in further discussing a topic based on, in your words, allegations,

Doesn't matter who I queried initially, you chose to jump on the bandwagon, so you should be able to defend your stance. I chose to use "allegedly" as I was not party to the meeting at the police station and didn't receive first hand accounts from the parties involved.

You chose to imply that the driver behaved incorrectly and should therefore be liable to make a payment purely on your own opinion.

But anyway, no point going in circles over all this. I'll rather look forward to heading home after work and taking my MTB on the trail, instead of bashing people's cars in.

Can anyone who witnessed a rider having road rage against a woman driving on William Nicol this morning come forward with details of the rider. He did some serious damage to the car at the robot after loosing his temper. I think the rider was part of a cyclelab ride as the driver of the vehicle said there was a vehicle following the riders. This kind of behavior is a disgrace. Please guys can one of the other riders come forward and do the right thing. Thankyou.

All commitments has been met and therefore I ask Admin to close this thread now.

Happy cycling and motoring, just lets respect each other whilst on the road.
