Can I fit a 1x to this?

Hi all,

 

Just wondering if it’s possible to fit a 1x to an older model XTR crank. It’s currently a triple. And if so do you know what BCD I would be looking for?

Google says its a 102mm BCD

You can get NW Chainrings in 104, 96 BCD and direct mount.

I dont think that crank is suitable

You can trim it down with a hacksaw and file, and fit a single chainring to it

Blackspire make chainrings with 102mm BCD, but they are not narrow-wide...

There are a few manufacturers who make a un-ramped 102 BCD chainring - https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/102-bcd-chainrings as an example.

 

If you find one of those then you can do this with the crank (which I have always thought looks very cool)

General consensus is that it is possible, but would require a narrow/wide chainring.

A104bcd chainring fits if you flip the chainring bolts round.

 

I run and have been running old XTR cranks and 104bcd ring for 5 years with flipped bolts.

Quick Admin, Lock this tread before someone starts arguing and it goes 10 pages of why you will loose the warranty on the cranks if you polish them or cut the spider arms.
