pastapouch Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Well, all races had declines , its no suprise that 94.7 also will have. A collegue of mine's brother in law is doing it. R245 entry, R30 licence, and R100 for the timing chip = R375. Ouch!
amoryns Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 try jou sommetjies vir tandem.....dis moer duur..dink dis laaste jaar wat ons tandem.... R245, R30 x 2

widget Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 When I was on the organising commitee of the old "Hyper to Hyper" we expected around a 10% "no show" on the day of the race, much more if it rained. But these mind, were all cyclists who had collected their numbers - in general cyclists not collecting numbers was small, maybe 5%.We found most cyclists collected or arranged collection of their numbers, even if they knew they wouldnt ride for whatever reason. So from my experience, yes, you can expect a drop in starters numbers of roughly 15% from entries, depending on weather, 30% is realistic if it rains.
AuctionLamb Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 still getting sms'es to enter "BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!"
Joe Low Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 See that Closing date has been extended to 30 Sept 2008. Entries only 22 436' date=' way short of the 35 000 they want.[/quote'] There were 16,800 timed finishers last yr. The difference between entries & timed finishers is +/- 25%, so 22,500 entries could give about the same size field as last year. Race no.s in general are a bit down this yr, so 94.7 seems to be holding up reasonably well. 35,000 would get them close to Argus entries but maybe is more marketing talk than anything else. IM(H)O

IM(H)O Its a bit difficult to judge on timed finishers because obviously, some folk dont bring a chip, some chips dont register, some folk loose their chip on route (yes its happened) or whatever, but it seems consistant with what we usually saw.
Yang Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I have two mates who want to enter, but their Winning Time chip numbers are not recognised, so they are supposed to cough up another R100 for chips they already have. And they will not enter until Winning Time sorts it out. I've emailed WT, but no answer yet. What's the problem with WT, or is there something I don't know about.
Zatek Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 This will be my 1st 94.7, but it is expensive but would like to know how it feels to have full road closure.
Joe Low Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 how fast do you have to ride to do a sub 3 ewep? Anything faster than:.......... 94.7 / 3 Thanks Slowbee, that made my day.
zeepee Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 not expensive, try racing enduros on a motorbike. You pay R300, drive far to get there, petrol/bike mainetenance, accommodation. Then you p!ss blood for 5 hours and dont even get a finishers medal or water tables on the route. 94.7 has full road closure (awesome i think), good support, water tables with snacks, hot chicks to cycle behind and a party at the end, a bargain at R245!!!
idrive Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Try racing cars at kyalami ....... R1000 entry. 2 x 8 lap races and a few practice sessions!!
Rob22 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I know R245 is a lot but in the bigger scheme of things, I think its worth it. It still costs more than R245 per cyclist to put the event on the road. If you think back to the early 94.7's when you had to make your way through vehicles, fighting with the Sunday morning shoppers who could care less for cyclists. I would'nt mind it being a bit cheaper but its still a great race
KlapperKnop Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 R245 for FULL road closure around JHB outskirts ... A BARGAIN!!!! The only time you can cycles along the M1; along Jan Smuts, Witkoppen, N14 without thinking once about traffic!!!
