IMHO biggest danger to the riders after the motorbikes ... the team directors. Only reason Astana would ride ahead ... team instructions! Then don't get me started om how the directors are driving and weaving between the riders. Riders really are just chess pieces for the directors to get sponsor exposure. Fact. <rant off>

Looks like they're having a track stand competition around the hairpins. 

As boring as it is to watch, I feel like this is whats necessary to make things safe for the riders. The organizers aren't going to tell anyone to slow down, so if the riders want safe racing, they need to make intelligent choices as a group and neutralize things themselves if things are dangerous. I wonder what they would do if the breakaway hadn't been caught though.  

Astana proved that some teams aren't keen on the group safety idea though... Until their leader power slid into a road sign....
