Question Simple Sam ... any good as a fixie/commuter

I'm wanting to get a simple fixie ..

I've read a lot about ROOK on this platform..

Simple Sam have been around a while although only an online shop

Any views on the Simple Sam ?

I see Bondi Blue, in Paarden Eiland, is having a SEEMINGLY incredible deal on 5 or 6 new fixes they have in stock; just seems like a lot of bike for the Money at first glance, though buyer-beware, etc

 

Would be Ken to know if they are any good?

Was at Bondi Blu on Sat..

They had bikes..but refused to sell me one

The excuse was the salesman was new and didn't know anything about the bikes

They call the bikes colony .. a bit cheap looking

I offered to assemble myself still refused to let me buy..

So I bought a second hand Simple Sam today

Build quality much better than the colony

not all fixies/ss bikes are equal!

 

With Rook you get the slightly more expensive bikes in their range, but they have better quality components and if memory serves the alum frame has nice s/steel sliding drop outs, so it will not get as messed up as some of the steel frames that only have a coat of paint on the dropouts ... the wheel lock nuts will mar the drop outs with the std painted finish.

If I am not mistake those collony bikes use quill stems and really cheap components.

I bought a second hand simple sam .. yellow

Put fabric lock on grips and fizik saddle

Bike is comfortable as a commuter... and cheap on wallet

Will be great to cruise beaches and pubs which is the reason I got her..

Any one else have a simple sam ?

The simple sam bikes are awesome. They too have standard steel plates on the dropouts so the frame doesn’t get damaged when tightening / loosening the rear wheel. I’ve used mine as a fixie and single-speed and although I prefer riding single speed, it’s great as a fixie. Performs really well.

They quality of the bike is really good and I think they are very well priced.

 

And yes they only have online shop but they do have resellers. I’ve seen some at Woodstock CycleWorks in Cape Town. Sure if you get in touch with them they can tell you where you can see the bikes or even do a demo.

I use to own one of these Simple Sams for a while, they pretty solid and well built for the price tag. I couldn't really find a cheaper commuter and quick hop on and ride type of bike at that time also got it second hand.

No complaints, all good I would say.

might as well call it Rhodes rider or AW Bike
