Opinions on the bike and would it be a good bike for a Triathlete, that’s not allowed using a Time Trial bike yet ?

Is it a good climber?

Is the bike flexible enough to handle tight corners?

If it is good enough for Matej Mohoric, you’ll be fine.

Stock seems to be a problem for Merida.

Underrated bike brand in SA, those team colors do look awesome.

Just put on a dropper post then you have the perfect bike, ready for any downhill pass.

I really like the Merida and the Reacto it is a great option for the triathlete. One of our top female triathletes in SA use this bike for her races. She was the second South African at the African Cup in PE this past weekend. Hannah Newman if you want to check her out on social media.

So there is a local example of someone excelling at the sport using it.

Disclaimer: I don't ride the Reacto.

The Reacto is a brilliant bike and possibly underrated as it doesn’t really fall into the desirable brand by many .

I have owned 2 Reacto’s , and the 2nd one was di2 with the cf4 frame . Not that I could feel the difference between that and the cf2 .

The bike fast , so fast . And surprisingly comfortable for such an aero bike . I never thought about the handling , but , damn it was fun to ride .

I sold it and bought and endurance type bike . Biggest mistake ever , huge mistake ! The defy is a great bike but I miss that buzz the Reacto gave me . I would swap my current bike in a heartbeat for another Reacto .

You can go wrong with the Reacto . I think value for money they are impossible to beat . And if the bike was badged differently they would sell faster and for 20% extra .

I set many a PR on that bike . Granted I was fitter than now , but I firmly believe the bike helped rather than hindered those times .

Buy it you won’t regret it .

I’m very curious to hear what your experience is between the two? I currently have a 2012 scultura and I see it’s geometry is very similar to the new reactos.

How did the Defy feel in comparison, is the new bike too upright and not racy enough for you?

It’s a strange one to be honest and something I can’t exactly put my finger on . The 2021 defy is and should be plenty racy enough for an old git like me. It’s not sluggish , neither is it slow.
But it feels like the ride has been dumbed down compared to the Reacto , that’s the bet way for me to describe it .

Maybe that’s the comfort thing , not feeling everything through the bike . I also think it has a lot to do with the riding position . The Reacto was a m/l with aggressive cf 4 frame . The defy is also a m/l but definitely feels like a bigger bike .I have grown to really like the defy and am plenty fast enough on it with being beaten up afterwards , but if I am honest , I loved the Reacto and would still swap for my defy . Not that it would do me any good .

I suppose it comes down to how the bike makes you feel more than anything else. Speed is also relative to the rider .

I love mine CF3 frame and CF5 fork, with a few upgrades it ended up lighter than my prev TCR 2021 pro 0. I have a size S (52), previously on a 54 TCR. The bike is longer, my toes never hit my wheel. I took me a couple hours to get confident in the descents due to the difference in geometry but now I'm fully confident with it, I do a lot of crit racing it handles really well.

Also all my climbing PRs were smashed on this bike, I'm no climber but it climbs well as far as I'm concerned

It won't disappoint, even with the aggressive setup, it's good on long rides, rolls really well, uphill (as good as your legs), fantastic downhill... absolutely no complaints, plus it's stunning. I'm on my second one already, I think this thread is going to turn into a Reacto fan page ...😆
