Yes with the new upgrades on the 840 and my 830 giving me about 4hrs of battery life due to the fact that the charging port is lose and not charging correctly according to the garmin experts in Namibia it just make more sense to upgrade the device. Have you considered the 530 ? Other than touch screen vs buttons ... are there real functional differences ? Cyclewizz Posted October 12, 2023 Share The Edge 830 (and probably the 530) have proper batteries on them, never taken mine to 0% but they last much longer than any other previous Edge. Since yours isn't charging properly and you doing an "upgrade" via Garmin then it makes sense to pay the extra $$$ and get the 840. I've been using a 1040 solar and, between the solar and the large battery, I wouldn't pick anything else for bikepacking and longer races. On a recent big day out, after 13 hours of riding (16+ hours elapsed), using navigation and an HRM, the battery was at 79%. I think I've charged it 4 times in the 6 months I've owned it.
