I used Shoe Glue which I bought from Leroy Merlin.

It seems to be working rather well so far.

@The Ouzo Great thanks, ETA for Battery is today. Hopefully I can get some shoe glue locally.

Finally did the replacement, been on the back burner for quite a while. Did a ride the weekend. Battery holding up really well. Didn't even drop a bar after a 2hour ride and 1hour pause.

Would you consider doing it for other people too? 

Dragged my Edge 130 out of the cupboard after two years of it not being used. (using a Instinct 2 watch now). You guessed it, dead as a doornail, does not take a charge, only starts up when on the charger.

Well my first try with the battery replacement was kinda a big fail...... Let me explain. 

I did a 3day cycle stage event in Cape Town this week and I was '"buddy bragging" how I saved alot of money by replacing my own GPS battery. I was frowned upon till I showed them how easy it was with the help of this thread.

Well needless to say on the first day of the race it started to rain and it was raining and raining the whole day. Even with the odd hail on some sections. I had a big fall about 2hours into the race as the single tracks were slippery as hell. Long story short..... I was on the bike for about 8 hours. I did notice at some stage my elevation were doing some funny ****. When going uphill it showed elevation @ minus 12% but then it sorted itself out. GPS was fine when I finish the stage. Charging that evening were fine. The next day I did not ride due to mechanicals and a bruised ego. Then on day 3 my GPS stared to reboot on the starting line..... I mean on the starting line while the countdown was going. Quickly pulled out my phone and starting to log my ride. 

Well fast forward to today I pulled the 130 apart and found some "evidence" 

Now I need to get some 90% alcohol and clean the circuit board. Hopefully once everything is cleaned it will fire right up.... Let's hope. I will use Crc 2-26 and spray all the internals as this stuff is really good. 

Then I will have to relook how to seal / glue the the screen back on, as this is what failed on the the first try.

A bit of a mad scientist vibe here, but the Garmin is alive. Cleaned the circuit board with rubbing alcohol. The battery that was in it is completely dead. It might be the battery circuitry that took a knock. Luckily I have a spare battery.

I just need to button everything up, properly clean the old glue from the base and test.

Glad you're sorted. The water proofing is my biggest concern. I have yet to test mine in a heavy downpour, so far there is no indication that light showers and sweat have gotten into mine.

Have you tried petrol and a brush to separate the two halves instead of a heat?  It will leave a better seal when closing.

No haven't tried that. I did use rubbing alcohol and ear buds to clean the surface before applying the glue

I found a Crack on the base of the housing, this surely can cause an issue. Not sure if it was there from the start or when I took a tumble with the bike. I used my soldering iron to melt the plastic close again.

Warning...be very careful what you use to separate the screen from the body or clean any excess sealant...especially the touch screen versions, they are comprised of multiple layers of glass and thin films, any highly volatile solvent will get in between the layers and destroy the screen...ex 830 touch owner..replaced the battery but now own a mini Brik!
