Good EVENING,

A question I'm assuming was asked a thousands times before, BUT how much does it cost to ship a bike from CPT to JHB? who is the best courier to do so with? and is the method simple? Do i disassemble the bike or do they? Many thanks!

Get a box from a bikeshop. Most will give you one, Some will charge you R100 or so. Take the front wheel off, loosen bars, get it in there. Find a spot for the front wheel in there too. Alternatively ask n bikeshop to box it for you. It wont be free i guess.

measure the box. (LxBxH)
weigh the box. (technically this is irrelevant because the ‘volumetric weight’ will be more than the actual weight. But they want to know anyway. A massive bike box and a 20kg shoe box should cost the same to ship)

Get them to collect. It will be about R800 - R1000 ish for an option that takes a few days to a week between CT and GP.

PS, you dont have to use CC. I’ve just used them before for this without issue.

Courier Guy about R750 to R850. Box it yourself with bike box from your LBS.

Its R750 at Cycle Lab. They bubble wrap and box it for you. You can ship it to a specified address or one of the CL branches.

I've use Cyclelab 3 x in past year sending bikes between Pta and Ctn.

Drop bike they pack and courier with their courier service.

Last year I paid between 400 and 500 for everything. (Box and courier)

Was a very satisfying experience.

Is this just a service that Cyclelab offer or do most bike shops oblige at a cost of course.

Need to get a bike from Wolmaransstad, North West to Cape Town.

How long should that take? Any any idea of the 2026 costs?

Speak to a bike shop local to you to see what they will charge to box up the bike. For transport, I’d recommend Triptych Resources. I’ve sent a few bikes abound the country with them and have had nothing but speedy and efficient service. IRC R700 to send a bike with them. Took them two days to get the last bike I sent from JHB to CT

Am I going crazy, but was quoted R750 just to pack and box a bike. That's excluding the courier.

My LBS charged me R450 for packing and gave me a box as part of the deal

That's about average, pretty fair all things considered. Generally takes an hour or so to do properly.

My first instinct was that it's quite steep.

Cycle lab charges R600 for boxing only.
