Bought this bike on marketplace and only when washing it did I notice this crack on the frame

Is that carbon frame cracked or just paint crack and carbon is ok?

Any ideas what I should do to recoup my costs? not going to repair as it wont be economical for me...rather buy another bike. My thoughts is just to sell as is...

Contact CBR (Carbon Bike Repairs Durbanville), get a quote for a repair.

At least then you know what it would cost, and can weigh up your options.

Any other 2nd hand bike comes with its bag of unknowns ....

And what price do you expect to get for a cracked carbon frame ..... repairing it may be the best way forward.

I was thinking selling as is maybe someone can use the 105 5700 groupset , wheels, fork.

even with crack it feels solid does not bend...

If you push in with your fingers can you notice any movement inwards?

That’s going to be difficult where that crack is located. If he can force it inward it means the laminate has actually failed and the bike should not be ridden at all.

Yep, that was my line of thinking. Reason I asked was that I was in a similar situation once and I could push in the carbon with my fingers. Hence the seller took back the frame as this should definitely not be possible.

I have two suggestions:

  • I may be keen on the 105 in a few weeks
  • I have an alu frame on which I was going to throw the 105 which you could possibly use if you're a 56

Either way can be beneficial, I have an alu frame and fork (tapered headset) and you have a cracked frame with parts 🤪.

I maybe wrong but I think the bike was advertised and it said the frame was cracked. If I'm correct the ad said cracked on the "Down Tube". I sell thing regularly I know that some people don't always read them correctly. I think the price was for under 10K complete bike

Or is it you that posted the ad on Facebook?
