[Event] 99er Cycle Tour

Perfect weather as you guys said. Thanks for the effort in putting on a great event to all involved!

Had an enjoyable race myself. Group H was going well until +-34km's in when the leading riders of J & K caught up to us (I think). Many of them went wide into the oncoming lane on a descent / rolling hills with cars having to drive in the yellow lane to avoid them. And as they then tried to merge into the already very full left lane, 3 riders who were already on the left got squeezed and went down a couple of bikes ahead of me.

I fortunately managed to brake in time but there was a couple of nasty falls with 1 or 2 bikes that went over the first guy who fell.

It all felt very avoidable if people had just applied more caution in overtaking/merging with an already large bunch. This is Group H/J/K after all...

I really hope those who crashed are alright. It looked like it was mainly the guy who went down 1st that struggled to get up.

Needless to say I lost the bunch at that point, but I was a bit disappointed at how few of the riders stopped to check on those who went down. There was a couple of us and then some cars behind us who also stopped.

Well done Nic. Well organised and gold to see you at the start and on the route. Leading form the front.

The grave bike handled the A frames just fine, even a roadie like me managed to ride them. Where we struggled was the corn field section and the last horrible corrugated road. That was death.

Nice event, will do it again.

Hehe.... the cornfield section was a bit of a curved ball, won't argue 😆

Because we ride on farm land we take what we can get. Last year that section was fallow.... next year we have coconuts growing there

It is called "challenge" for a reason. Look forward to seeing you all next year

The Trilogy was a blast. First time doing it (done the road race many times). Bit too much tar for my liking, but it sure helped with a fast avg. speed. The Durbie Dash gravel also used that Spes Bona road (in and out). Absolutely brutal. The other gravel was fine. Not quite "champagne" quality like in Caledon last weekend. 🤭

The "mountain bike" section was actually fun on a gravel bike. Wasn't expecting to see mud at this time of the year.

Those enormous black cows were impressive. And the marshals at the "dangerous" bits were super useful. No unexpected surprises.

Really well organised as always. ✌️

Just waiting for my McDonald's delivery so I can start my recovery... 😂

Thx for feedback. This is the Northern Suburbs, my backyard. Much tougher here than the the south 😆

Those cows and bulls are regular. Just don't ever wear red cycling kit...😳

I hand picked and placed those marshals because of the danger level.

As for the mud, previous post explained. Farmer has to water his crops....

Unfortunately the only way to stretch the race to a decent 80km is to use tar to get there. I would love more gravel too but it is impossible. What is nice about the race is that it is consistent in terms of route. Exact same distance and path each time so you can compare to a previous race.

Glad you enjoyed. I enjoyed interacting with many of you on the route and at the finish

- Twitchy $ group. Felt like at least 1/3 of the group had no business being there, maybe due to not enough actual elites showing up and people being towed in previous races

- 2 ebikers casually in the group. $19 on an sworks creo from the looks of it, can’t remember the other

- no neutralized start made things frantic from my perspective and a crash nearly happened in the first 2km

- race was organised really well and didn’t envy the marshals trying to keep us all inside the white line, thank you for trying to keep things safe 👍👍

@NicholasH Thank you to you and your TEAM.

Post race - Those kids that welcomed us as we rounded the circle into the school .... knop in die keel oomblik !!  Please pass on our thanks to the school, staff and pupils.

Hi Ross, thanks for the chat.  You sure made a good start, seeing gaps and safely making your way up the group ....

Yet another excellent event.

Sad to see the medics needed.  Good to see swift action and that people got immediate help.

Even saw the bakkie with the trailer helping a rider fix his bike.

After a week of sinus issues I went out gingerly .... knowing that today may the day that I have to pull out .... thankful that I could finish.

Not sure if you have contacts there but it would be nice if they give results per group also.

Otherwise the race was a blast. Well organized, very friendly Marshalls and all the people working there too.
