Pity this coincides with Karoo2coast.

I'm sorry but an event less than 2 hours from Cape Town wins hands down. K2C is +-7hours away if you factor in at least 2 stops along the way, fuel, accommodation if you can still find any Uniondale these days.

I get all this. But I’m already doing Karoo2coast. Would have liked to have done both but obviously not possible.

Anyone done this one before ? Looking at perhaps the 130km, but might opt for the 80 and have more time and energy to spend with the wifey.

I did it last year and I can strongly recommend it. Great gravel roads that were in really good condition and well stocked water points... and a free beer at the end 😀

I did the 80km due to time constraints and I'm really glad I did because the 130km has a nasty sting in its tail. I'll do the 80km again this year 🤙

The routes have a shared tail. The sting for the 130km is smack bang in the middle!

As gravel routes go the 130km route is one of the tamer ones around, since you are not skipping out on the big climb anyway when opting for the 80km I would say enter for the 130km - you still have more than enough time to get fit

You definitely skip the big climb if you do the 80k.

The 130k has a 7km climb with pitches of 20% in it.

when opting for the 80km you miss out a serious climb which only the 130km tackles… nothing tame about the 130… one section hits 26% and is fairly loose😉

My bad, misunderstood some of the earlier posts.

That said, even with that nasty climb I would say the 130km is relatively speaking one of the easier routes around. And that is not a bad thing, more hard climbing does not necessarily = more fun

Easier than Ceder, harder than Ronde van Riebeek.

Kinda fits in the middle for me.

But yes, great race, on my calendar every year.
