Having a mixed groupset like that, as specially with the crank would drive me nuts.

see my post about this on the bike shops thread. That's why they can extract so much money from you. In my old days i was a purist, but its all marketing hype and BS. It doesn't ride any different and it has no gain other than ascetics and allowing them to extract mahor margin from you. But hey this took me a lot of money to learn.

I took the plunge.......I went with Shimano 105 Di2 12spd. My experience with sram on a previous bike and getting spares was a bit of an issue and I find shimano spares are a plentyful. But yes it wont improve anything except ascetics. Thanks for the feedback though appreciate it.

You obviously don't live in South Africa. Shimano spares are not plentiful here.

When I have searched for Shimano spares it has been hassle free and easy to get my hands on what I require. Cant comment for everyone....

There is no difference between shimano 105 mechanical and di2 brake calipers, cranks, chain and cassette.

For all the above what are we looking at roughly cost wise?

Comes to roughly 2/3 the price

Not sure if things have changed, but isn't the freehub the same for Shimano and Sram?

Shimano and sram are different but if he sticks with shimano he doesn't have to change

I'm looking to upgrade my year old mechanical Shimano 105 12spd hydraulic disk groupset to electronic. Have read various reviews etc... but still not quite sure which route to go. I have a budget so Sram Red, Dura Ace and any Campag is not an option. Options available, SRAM Force/ Rival or Shimano Ultegra/ 105. This may have have been asked before but I couldn't find any thread. Anyone else been in this situation and what are the various opinions out there?

Wait for new Shimano wireless. SRAM is wireless and Shimano currently not. Explore the option of getting a Chinese carbon crankset for the price of an aluminium SRAM or Shimano, lighter, cheaper. SRAM can do 1X currently and your gravel deraileurs can work with road groups. SRAM has the best disc brakes according to reviews and the industry raves about their levers. Do you have a powermeter? Checkout Panda Podium for Cybrey carbon cranks with PM and some other upgrades. Guarantee if you choose some custom parts other than just buying off the shelf groupset you will have some fun building a unique bike and people will always be asking about your custom setup.

I prefer one brand complete groupsets. Don't want to draw attention at all.
