Saw the below mail on the spinman list. Jeez we have become such a nanny nation...if you cannot ride it, and

crash don't blame the builder. Heck even if you can ride it and done so how many times before and and still crash don't blame the builder, YOUR RIDING IT AT YOUR OWN RISK...For example I came off a hip jump this weekend and smacked into a tree

cracking a rib, who's fault was it, the guy building the jump or me

going to fast onto the ramp, mine off course.

Yes it's bad the guy crashed, and I hope he get's better, but jeez if you ride it, you take

responsibility. I suppose now if I ride my roadbike on a training ride and don't make a corner and crash and smack into the curb breaking my back or something I need to blame the government for not putting on a sign saying there's a potential dangerous curb.

Jeez...we are becoming like americans.

[spinman Community] Teeter Totter - Take the "F...ng" thing down

Yesterday afternoon I went for a ride down the spruit.

When I got to the ?Teeter Totter? I came across

the usual sight there, somebody lying on the ground with a group gathered

around checking out the ?war wounds?

This time it was a bit different though, this victim had

landed on his head and was no longer able to move (as in paralyzed from the

neck down). When we left he was in the capable hands of netcare.

So now I ask you, is the fact that somebody didn?t read

the disclaimer justification for possibly spending the rest of his life in a

wheelchair.

I sincerely hope that this chap only has temporary injuries

and that the teeter totter is removed to avoid further injuries.

Why just not close the park completely to avoid any further injuries ?

Ya! And make everyone sell their bikes, cars, kettles, hell, everything has risks. You will need to roll yourself in cotton wool and keep very still...

If you can't ride something, then don't. The same with all the other jumps and bumps. I know which ones I can jump. The other day I almost came down when I went over and down the rock near Delta Park. It was my fault as I were over confident.

BTW, Mrmed's wife also went down over that thing head first. She broke her ancle.

Go to a MTB race and see how badly it bottlenecks at the first sight of something technical? If that's the standard of the average MTBr in SA, we shouldn't put teeter-totters on the Spruit, we should tar the fuggin trail.

Riding with foot in mouth? To prevent chain suck?

Haven't ridden the Spruit in a ages, assume this is the teeter totter near Peter Place. It's not compulsory to ride this, you can dismount and just walk your bike through the stream, which is probably dry this time of year. If you're really skilled, you can ride through the stream bed.

Hope the rider recovers fully. Never good to hear stories like this. All bicycle riding involves risks. No one is to blame for this. Just an unfortunate incident.

If we are to become like the Americans, then everyone else is responsible for your mistakes.

The story of the woman who sue'ed (and won) McDonalds for burning herself with coffee still bugs me.

You gotta put discalimers on everything! ie 'hot contents' on a cup of coffee!

MTB rule no 1....if you cant ride it get off and push or run! This rule is fit for the pro"S so why is it not fit for us?

It's shocking we should get a technical seeding system, if you cannot pass this technical skills your not allowed to do this race etc.

OK, I feel sorry for the person that got hurt, but my wife broke her leg there and it was her own fault.

Those see-saws are cool, if you can't handle them, don't ride over them, and if you do and fall, then that's life.

A friend of mine told me about someone who saved up for years to ride Route 66 in the states on a Harley. First day he was there, he was killed in an accident. That's life.

You can't ban something because it's dangerous.

We should also appoint a team of people wielding hairdryers to dry up any sections containing precipitation in case somebody slips n falls round a damp corner. And somebody to control the build-up of algae on the river crossing before paulshof/witkoppen road in case some1 loses traction n slips there n gets wet.

What alot of people think is that if they buy a FS bike they automatically get the skills with it. I know a guy that bought a Trance and spends his days riding at Northern Farms. He is not confident in riding the spruit.
