Any good camel pack cleaning tips? The bicarb is not really working for me

Yes, only keep water in the bladder. LOL

Milton, I've heard, does a good job for those who like to keep Cytomax, FiT, Octane, whatever, in their baldders.

I only use water in the bladder but still get funk growing in there. Almost got my own water filtration plant with all the growth!

gotta make a mental note not to accept water offers from strangers... gotta make a mental note....

Never had a problem with foreign growth in my Camelbak which has now seen two years use.

Only use bottled water, and store the bladder in the fridge when not in use.

I use my camel back on long rides 3h +.  And when we have to cross some fences.  When my mates lift my bike over the fence they always tell me how light it is.  Nearly 1.5 kg lighter than theirs.LOL

Got one of these, it is comfy, carries all my tools puncture repair kit,

spare tube, don't get mud in my teeth, maybe if i was racing i'd go for a bottle though... just convenient to grab your camelbak and you know you have everything...

Good 'ol dishwashing soap and warm water. For the tube buy the special brush to remove the cr@p inside, it's the only way. Never use mouthwash. You'll never get rid off the taste Confused

Camelbacks are great for marathon events or if you dont have seconds to give hand you extra fluids. As long as you dont insist on stuffing it full with other stuff. I've seen some peps who seem to think you have to fill up every bit of space available, tools for africa, food for an army, tubes for everyone.....

A few things I dont like about a camel back:

 - They can move around a bit on "technical terrain" and hit you on the back of the head on steep descents (mine does not have a tummy strap).

 - Keeping the bladder and tubes clean is just so much harder than cleaning water bottles.

- Sucking the fluid is harder than drinking from a bottle, especially when you riding at 100% and dont have any lung capacity to spare...

i used a camelback yesterday at the crater cruise for the first time in my life i started with the race snakes (some people classify me as one aswell apparently) i hated every minute of it not only is it uncomfortable but a mission to drink out of no matter how hard i sucked on that bite valve after squesing it with my teeth i could only get a little tricle of liquid out everytime so by 50km i decided my bottle was my best friend and started using that again

Are you sure the bite valve wasn't closed? They have a small lever which can 'open' or 'close' the flow of liquid..... just a thought

I store my bladder in the freezer with about 500ml water - that way when I need it in summer, I have cold drink the whole way - just watch that the ice does not block the tube. The ice in the tube melts quickly so that does not present problems. You get used to how to store that you get the it easy to open to add more "drink", and then to getthe liquid out without blocking the tube. I have used mine for 3 years with no issues - taste or otherwise.

Now you know youre scratching where its not Itching mate.
