jellytot Posted January 12, 2007 Share I didn't get any green & gold clothing! I had no recognition from the local mtb authorities because 24 hour racing isn't actually a sport. WHAT?!! They're full of cr@p! It's not in anybody's legs (and bum) to ride that kind of race! You deserve to get your green & gold
MintSauce Posted January 12, 2007 Share Rode a bit on the mountain yesterday' date=' cut a tree a bit close on the left and had to move my butt outta the way as the tree hit my saddle, man it was beautiful![/quote'] I just get so caught up in it! Often I'll get to the bottom of something like Never Ending Story with one or both fore arms bleeding from clipping trees. I just love the rush of the speed, i cannot get down there fast enough and occasionally you just cut it too fine! Great stuff!

TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share Oh don't worry, Sara knows I have other more effective methods than that. You've obviously never spoken to me before?
jellytot Posted January 12, 2007 Share Nope, today really the first time we've spoken. Sara, HELP! Obviously you don't know me either, so that's to my advantage....

MichH Posted January 12, 2007 Share Er hrrrm... just cutting short these continuing efforts to unite single cyclists across Cape Town by answering The Thug's question: Geoff the Aussie in his usual style explains that bar ends were designed when people in white socks first started taking road bikes with skinny motorbike tyres down mountains. The frames were road bikes, so the top tubes were too short. To handle the bikes better, they put bar ends on. As soon as bikes started beng designed with correct geometry, they no longer needed bar ends. He also pointed out that you cannot shift or brake from bar ends. When I asked about bar ends for a different ride position, he said if your bike was set up correctly, you don't need different ride positions, and even in endurance racing, you may need to brake suddenly. Anyway, that plus my 2 falls convinced me.
dirtrider Posted January 12, 2007 Share MMMM interesting . Again I have to totally disagree with his whole take on the issue . Even though his history of bar-ends may be correct his take on why we still use them is totally wrong . But lets keep to that story and look at it . The downhill roadies used bar-ends for better control going downhill , so it only makes sense that we still use them ? But I have found than bar end does not give you better control , the oposite is actually true . Bar ends are used 1 : for diffirent riding positions (your 100% setup bike will not give you that) 2 : It is easier to take on very steep hills hanging onto bar-ends . Why would you wanna brake or change gears while having your hands on the ends ? Doing a big downhill or very techinal section while hands on bar-ends is very, very stupid . jellytot Posted January 12, 2007 Share Dirt Rider, I have to agree with you. I also use my bar ends for exactly the reasons you gave.

Kranswurm Posted January 12, 2007 Share When racing twisty singletrack through Botswana thorn trees they are a hazard. They hook up and result in a spectacular and swift crash to the ground.Painfull I might add when its a Wag 'n Bietjie.I am seriously considering taking them off. TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share Yeah, that whole correct geometry thing doesn't wash with me! Correct geometry for what? Descending or ascending, these are 2 very different things entirely.
