look at it from the banks point of view. maybe they dont have the proof anymore. and now you come along saying you want them to pay you back 18mths of premiums. if someone came to me with this story i would be hesitant to pay them back as well

I agree with you that waiting periods in doctor's offices are frequently unacceptable but what you need to realize is that doctors often need to see emergency cases in between their routine cases - that invariably makes one late - just remember the next time that you wait' date=' the doctor may be saving your friend who came off his bike's life.

I get your point but I think 90% of the time it's just poor time management. Don't worry, I'm on the list too. Us builders continuously take the blame for clients, architects, engineers, blah, blah, blah........LOL

you a builder then.........

If you use a set square, spirit level and plumb line, then you are better than 99% of most Polish and South Africans that masqeurade under the name builder.

No need to get personal now.Ouch Poles are busy building most of Western Europe. You should be so lucky as to have a Polish builder building for you.

Nope, Bob was English, but too lazy and content sponging off the dole so Piotr the builder did all the work while he took the credit and achieved all the fame. Piotr was also not too good with the press.

You should've checked your statements and brought it to the banks attention right away, it's your money after all and you can't expect the bank to manage your personal affiars. I'm not saying they are right but the onus lies on you first.

Provide them with the proof of cancellation in person and see what happens else take it to the ombudsman, but seeing as nothing was done for 18 months I don't know how strong your case is going to be.

I work for a bank and am in insurance and yes I agree some places rip you off, that is why you should shop around first before taking out any products, don't blame the bank or insurance company if you were to lazy to do your homework, they can not force you to take a product, you have to accept it. In the case of the house insurance that someone mentioned, if you find another product and rather want that then you can take it but all you need to do then is provide your bank with proof of said insurance and proof that this policy has been seeded to the bank, so that they can see their risk is covered. Again, do your homework on the process and shop around. Ofcoarse the banks and insurance companies are going to punt their own products, it's a business after all, that does not make it wrong.

We get thousands of letters daily thanking us for the insurance clients take and how it has 'saved' them in times of crises, so remember that not all service is bad because you had one bad experience, or that some people benefit from insurance that banks offer. Some people never claim on insurance, some do, but I'd rather pay that premium (the cheapest one I have reaserched) than have something happen to me and I can not cope financially or leave my family behind in debt. Is all about risk and covering your risk, the banks and yours as with any business.

Concider these things before you go and flame institutions.

I am not sure but had a similar problem where insurance companies were cheaper than the bank. Standard Bank refuses to cancel the insurance on your property. If I remember correctly it had something to do with them not having control over your payments to your insurer and if you default and your insurance lapse and the property is damaged there is no insurance to cover it something like worst case scenario if fire destroys it and them protecting their asset....

I don't think it's allowed any more. If you can proof that you have the insurance somewhere then they must cancel theirs. The clever way they get around it is by puting it as a clause in your contract that you will take their insurance. If you change it you need a new contract. smiley19.gif

If you have had any claims in the 18 months with your existing insurer get a list of them and get them to request ABSA Ins Co to pay 50% of the claims or give back your premium.

Did not read the whole thread so if someone has already metioned this I apologise.

Did you not instruct your current broker to arrange the cancellation!! Make it his problem.
