The Toyota MTN Cycle Park

The gap jump next to the office blocks is murder. The lip has crumbled and is just bloody dangerous. I had to bail while in the air. Was about to try it again when I noticed that it did not have enough lip to be cleared. They should maybe close that one and repair it.

YUP! I did a awkward manual to drop and just just cleared the gap with my back wheel.

Anyone know when the BMX track will actually be completed?  It was fun to mess around on Sat. but quite rough around the edges.  I was a bit shocked when I asked on Saturday to hear that the price of the Annual Plate has gone up to R1,995.   All I can say to the first 100 that got at R995 - You lucky b@st@rds. I second the votes above for a bit more tech/burly stuff as it is a bit lacking in Black Diamond features (Double Black for the biggest drop Clap very funny indeed)

Rode it yesterday - had fun!  Will be even better once it's all finished.  Noticed that quite a few of the planks are already breaking. Doesn't look like the strongest wood.

And need some sort of barrier between the razor mesh fence and the steep start of the black route.  My friend barely touched it, and I ended up having to put 3 stitches in his hand.

I would love to see more technical stuff, but I fear that the Bryanston park is the wrong venue for it. How many ambulances this weekend?

I think the park just attracts too many people, and more technical stuff kill/hurt/maim them. Apparently there's more technical stuff happening at Logwood now. I still need to check it out.

The low on the ground stuff that Daemon posted is an awesome idea. I think it's a great way to learn stuff without the added fear of falling 6 feet. I saw an awesome park on youtube that they built in the US - it's called Ray's Bike Park. All indoors, lots of bridges, jumps, see-saws, and stuff I could never image possible. Search for it no youtube, it really is amazing.

Rays park is legendary!!! http://www.raysmtb.com/

Looks like so much fun!! Perhaps a couple of hubber so club togheter and we go buy a old wharehous/airplane hanger somewhere and build something like rays park.

The problem I have is, Geoff thinks high = technical, which is not so at all....

Vaulter1 that R1995 for how many entries would that be? Why don't they make it like a gym subscription, you pay every month, if you go you go if you don't it's your loss, but it's a flat fee ever month.

The year plate (1995) has unlimited entries, only the others are number of entries.

Also, if you look at some of the videos of Ray's park you'll see that everything that the park is so densely built up, it's looks like an ant farm! It would really be great to get a network of low-down bridges in the park that run between the routes. There's enough space, and it will give the park a lot more variety.

I'm all for building something in an abandoned warehouse, but the money and time involved would be massive. How long would it take to build a bridge? How much wood? I don't see that happening without a sponsor or 2 putting up serious money.

@Daemon:  The R1,995 is for an Annual Plate (unlimited entry) though comparing that to their "per visit" options you'd have to go 80 times in a year to make it worth your while.

While I know it becomes difficult to make a complex pricing schedule, I don't mind paying R50 (or R27.50 with a bulk entry buy), for a few hours on the weekend but to get a quick ride in after work during the week it seems too much.  It depends on who they want to attract and unfortunately I don't think I'm their target market.

Ray's is a great example of making something out of nothing.  It's in a warehouse in Cleveland for godsake - it doesn't get much flatter than that.

@ridr:  I second that about the razorwire fence - nearly had a fall into it myself on the other side of the freeway.

@Hog:  the only reason Ray's is built in a warehouse is... Have you been to Cleveland in the winter?  Scrap wood is cheaper than you think and a little extra manual labor never hurt anyone.

Not sure when "everything" is set to be completed at the park but in contrast to the flurry of work before the Official opening, it seems they're going at a snails pace now that there are enough green routes up to keep the clients happy.

There yesterday to check out the Bmx track with my 8 yr old.

While I can see that the second straight will have two options.. one for the elites/pros and the other for the rest/lighties... Its a massive track with 2 of the straights ( heading back in the direction of the start hill ) being somewhat uphill. The amount of speed you will need to carry around that track is going to be significant..

Great to have a Pro level Bmx track that Sifiso can train on, but looking around yesterday, much money is coming from Dads and Moms with small kids... And there is no real place for them to ride if they cannot manage the trails.. The pump track is great for 10 minutes..

Hopefully they actually build a smaller Bmx track next to the current one as my 8 yr old is going battle to pedal his race Bmx bike up some of those jumps, never mind jump them!
