i think at the back where i started, people just did not bunch ride, no idea how, at about the 40k mark i began to find people who were riding in bunches.

i found the whole event quite an eye opener,

Blayne and JF rode VB (35-39). There was a breakaway of 5 riders' date=' Blayne took the sprint, JF second, Stefano Madies 3rd...

Thanks intern. Two quality former pros those so not surprised by the result. Good to see them back in race mode, especially Blayne. He and Doug Ryder did the road race for SA at the '96 Olympics.

Were you in that break, intern?

Hey easy SB I"m not THAT old OK? hahah - I was in VA...

bruce that is a good point but cars can move out of the way and you can attempt to move out of the way at least

with cones if someone hits it you are more than likely going down if you are less than 5m away from it

94.7 a couple of years back had cones the entire length of the KDorp highway.

The 94.2 in 2002 also had cones. There was a very bad pileup just before the N14 when a cyclist hit a cone and went down. We were on the Tandem just behind him in the bunch and were able to miss him. Those behind us were not so lucky and about 20 bikes went down. Not a nice sight.

I remember the whole vet bunch being disqualified in the Hyper to Hyper a few years back. Comissaires should have the guts to do it when the bunch transgresses.

Good race, pretty well organised regarding route marking and people around the route, eetc. Bunches are to big for racing catagories though, but its a difficult thing to organise with a road as narrow as this and with the amount of cyclists being part of the event.

Think bruce have a good idea, but the road is to narrow for this, but moving it to the R59 may just work perfect for the idea.

One of the bigger dissipointments today is seeing people on the route, loosing it and swearing like crazy, showing fingers, etc.... this is all uncalled for. Some races is difficult to control, but manage as it is and make the best of it and take problems up with the organiser instead.

Hope there were not too many serious incidents. Not in a hurry to ride this race unless there is road closure, after witnessing 4 crashes last year, 1 particularly nasty one as we were entering V town where a rider on the right riding well over the white line hit the side mirror of a car approaching from the front and bouncing back into the bunch bring down about 10 riders.

Was in the same bunch last year. After that incident and a few others over the years I decided not to do this race again.

quote from CG cycling newsletter; seems like slowpoke is right - behave, or lose the race:

<quote>

We wish to bring to your attention the fact that the Department of

Community Safety of the Gauteng Dept of Transport, Roads and Works has

issued a stern warning to the organisers of both the Carnival City

Macsteel and the Ride For Sight Races.

These races are under threat of being stopped if riders display the

total disregard for the Rules of the Road and shear hooliganism that

occurred last year.

The organisers of both races have given an undertaking to warn all

riders prior at the start that any transgressors will be disqualified.

In this regard we appeal the cooperation of race referees that you

provide to enforce this rule.
