Hi

Have been reading the hub with interest over past couple of days, and decided to join in the fun.

Relatively new to the sport, so have learnt quite a bit as well.

- From Alberton also - so have enjoyed S2L tremendously, will look out for him over weekends!!

- Know bduplessis from my days in Secunda - dude why Ncape?

- Completed the FO this weekend, so have relived the "race" couple of times on the hub.

- Would like to find out who OB is!!!!?????

Actual question - Im 40yrs and want to know whether I should be trying to get a racing licence and ride VC or stay Cyclo and continue in open seeded cat?

Any comments/hints welcome.

Nuwbie: You can enter VC using a cyclosport license - the only thing you can't enter using a cyclosport license is provincials & SA's... so maybe choose one of the easier races & give it a go.

Compare your time with the times of the guys in the VC bunch if you are in the top half of the VC bunch then you can try a race with them.

If you move to VC and you are not strong enough then you will ride on your own for longer and your times will go down.

There is a fine line, you don't want to be in a to fast or to slow group.

I must add here that I was seeded VA for the Fast One.  I am definately not in their league (2.47) as within 1km, I was so far behind I couldn't even see them.

So my question is, for the next race, what must I do to ensure that I don't end up in VA again and get left in the dust.  It sucks riding a race like the FO on your own for 50% of the race!

Welcome Nuwbie !

I'm in a similar predicament. I started road cycling around 18 months ago and have since then raced in the open seeded category. Based on my age I should be racing with the VD's but prefer to get my assed kicked by Jules and Co in A bunch rather than by Andrew Mac and the Beneke Bros in VD.
