Just got news: a Cycle Lab member (Steve Mitchley) was knocked down this

morning just after 06:00 on Sandton Drive. Andrew McLean is on the scene

and states the injuries are "Serious". Luckily the driver of the Club support

vehicle, Lovemore, has been sent on First Aid courses and looked after him

until the ambulance arrived.

No other news. Ali is contacting his wife & he is off to Sandton Clinic

For those of us that know Steve, let's hope he's OK.

Yes not good news it's more like you know logging onto the hub every morning there will be another cyclist knocked down or worse thread.

Not good news at all. My thoughts and prayers are with Steve and his familly.

Sandton drive again!? And the thing is that you can't even say that there was a lot of traffic because the time of day that the guys from the lab go down there the traffic is quiet enough. Maybe 4 or 5 cars if that.

Hope Steve is okay. It's almost two months ago that Garth got knocked down on Sandton drive (that was 2 weeks before christmas - almost no traffic)

Garth pulled through but he has a lot of rehab to do. Last report I received (about two weeks ago) is that he has reached his goal of being able to walk around his house and he can lift his arms up to about 90 degrees.

Hope Steve is in better shape...

terrible news, I hope he recovers soon.

I ride the morning ride regularily and to think that this happens so easily is scary. If I had gone out this morning it could have been me? jeez.

My thoughts are with him.

That he is. He was sent on First Aid courses by the Club last

year for just this eventuality. I suppose the sad thing is that

it was never a case of "if" he was going to use his newly

acquired skills, but "when"...

Bad news! Hope he recovers ok.

I used to ride down Sandton Drive but later when there was more traffic. It just scared me so much that I now ride through Hyde Park and come out higher up on William Nicol.

I nearly got taken out by a Metro 4x4 at the robot cnr of Grayston.

so sad ... SA roads and drivers are horrible - cyclists are targets! When I was riding in Europe, cars leave  huge gaps or they stay behind u till the roads are clear ...and had huge respect for cyclist!

why can't they do it here? ... guess all too stuuuupido

for me a big reason to get out of this country asap ... unfortunately!
