Racer Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Fellow west rand hubbers beware.At about 5.15 this morning my godson,ex Barloworld and Hi Q pro Rob Etzinger was assaulted and his top end Fondreist taken at gunpoint on the corner of Ontdekkers and Hendrik Potgieter and i was told that yesterday morning at the same spot one of the Ride magazine people was also assaulted and his Daccordi was taken.If anyone spots either bike please contact the Saps.The sad part is that he has been training to make a comeback to race VA after a 2 year layoff and now has no bike.

mallo Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 This is the same spot my two riders were jacked in December not only are they robbing the people at the bus stop in the mornings and evenings they seem to be plying their trade n cyclists as well. The sad part is SAPS are not prepared to patrola nd search the open field behind the swimming pool acrossthe road and has threaten to lock me up if I assault any of the persons who frequent this field. what to do and to think I voted this gov.into power.

Mini hi-jack on: I have just read the article in Die Bruger this morning about the funeral of Colin van Schalkwyk and I am now seriously considering giving up cycling. To read what his wife and 6 year old daughter must and have gone through is just so sad and I don't want to put my family through the same thing. Mini hi-jack off, sorry.

The stolen bike market can only grow if we create the demand for such.

Honest buyers should start asking for proof of purchase: If the parts were bought seperate, ask for the paid receipt. If it comes off a whole bike purchased, ask where the bike was bought and do your research. And the seller won't feel offended if he has nothing to hide. I'd think he'd be too happy to show his proof of purchase.

Hire some ex recce's that served in the old government and now out of job to patrol the area for you.
