Big%20smileHow many People actually don't know that DEEP SECTION WHEELS don't work in wind...... idiots. Come one this is CT and one can look on the net to check the weather and see that you need to leave them at home..

Think that most Capetonians that own a set of Deepsections is actually wasting theirs time. How many races a year can you ride without wind?

Guess people want to show off and those wheels make your bike look extra good' date=' but on the practical side..... Not to cleverLOL
[/quote']

Then no one in CPT can ride deep section wheels EVER? They not so bad in "normal" windy conditions....yesterday was en exception....only real problem I had was when coming down Suikerbossie....but even people without deep sections had a problem there!!!!!Ouch

The wind we encountered in CT yesterday probably happens around once every two months. Obviously many windy days, yesterday was just one of those extreme events. The start area (around the civic centre) is the windiest part of the city. Even on a good day the wind is breezy down at the civic centre.

They should actully push the start out further to the traffic lights....

Yesterday was insane.  if anyone asks me how I did I say I survived.   Being a fairly light female on a light bike I was being blown around everywhere.  I actually got off and walked for about 20 metres on the downhill going towards Camps Bay.

Jip,

What an experience!  It does not happen that I wonder within the first 100m what I am doing at a race (it usually happens much later in a race)... but it happened yesterday.  Unfortunately I can say that the PB I was aiming for never materialized, and this time with a road bike vs my previous rides on a MTB.

At least I survived... Smile .. and have an experience of wind I never had before.  Never again will the N14 wind on 94.7 be classified as tough...

I really do feel for the people that was stopped with about 10km to go.  In their condition it must have been extremely tough to battle the 90+ kms, just to be stopped before the end.

Deep section wheels are faster period.

There's enough studies done as proof.

Astana, I don't think the guys in CT riding DSW are the idiots

And yes, yesterday was extreme and your bike handling would have suffered because thereof

But under any "normal" high wind conditions DSW will be faster - just as a disc is always faster unless you're doing huge climbs during a TT

Check out what John Cobb or Steve Hed or any of the windtunnel guru's say

Yesterday was completely insane. I couldn't move under the bridge on to the highway - just stood against the wind trying to fight my way forward. Eventually someone pushed me out (when the next bunch was saying WHOOPLAH!!)  Then I got on to the highway and fell over again - and had to hold on to my bike to keep it from blowing away.

Having said that I made it to the finish in one piece and survived. Will try for a good time again next year.

Congrats Alida!

I've personally never seen that many people turning back within 3 km of the start, and some even before they started! The wind truly was magnificent, but in a scary, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-brown-splotched pants sorta way.

Glad I finished. And those burgers i devoured at the finish made my yearly subs to the Lab just that much more worth it!
