Becks06 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Thanks all for your input, I have learned more about brands and types in the last 2 days than in the last 5 years of cycling. Also learned valuable lessons about cyclists in general, ha ha ha. As far as the snotty types about my ability on a bike!!!??? I would love to have a couple of lessons. Lets go ride together, best way for me to learn. Anybody keen? Cheers.Becks062009-03-20 02:16:28
TitusTi Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Buy the cheapest best bike you can get your hands on, people spend way to much money on this sort of thing, you can be competitive with alot less.
AndreZA Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You can be competitive on a R10 000 Raleigh aswell. | | | | | \|/ *
turtlek Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Take them all for a ride dude if you are putting down that sort of cash you do not want a bike that will be uncomfortable for you for example a cervelo soloist is a harsh ride for most but an awesome ride for others a trek madone is too stiff for some but too flexy for others you will get loads of opinions and people trying to sell a bike from personal experience but the only way to know how you will feel on a bike is if you test one out P.S. i am very competitive on a 10kg bianchi aluminium bike so you dont neccisarily need to spend so much cash to be fast turtlek2009-03-19 01:29:47
gummibear Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Have you ridden any of these bikes?what i like may not suit you. what are you riding now. There is a very nice Trek Madone Red here on the Hub at a very good price.WindblownPE2009-03-19 01:29:58
knersis Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 70k, built up your own bike, buy exactly what you want. Should be able to build a 6.8kg bike easy peasy. Sram Red, Zipps.
The Ant Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If you can afford it then buy something that will make you happy.... I would personally go for the Trek, the new Madone's are gorgeous and the life time warranty is an added bonus. I am jealous! Good luck with the racing!
Jackes Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Advice : Spend your hard earned cash more wisely. Mampara summed it up for you...
Genesis Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You can be competitive on a R10 000 Raleigh aswell. | | | | | \|/ * Agreed!! R70k is alot of money to spend on a bike. Can get some damn nice bikes in the R30k-R35k range.Geez!- you can get some great bikes in the R20k-R30k as well.
Spinnekop Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 First choice: Cannondale SuperSixSecond choice: Trek Madone Third choice: Cervelo. The first two.....both have VERY good replacement warranties. First hand experience. Both are top of the range bikes. Both companies spend a LOT on R&D. The rest only copy........ Good luck and enjoy buying your bike!!!
Trubie Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If its your first bike, dont spend that much money.Maybe you dont even like the sport. Get something way cheaper, first become competitive (by the way we all are - that's why we ride & race), and then upgrade. Then again, if you got the cash , have to spend it, go for a ride on the options mentioned, and stick to the trek
Guest Michelle Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If you're looking for a size 52 get that Trek Madone 6.9 Pro Red for R55k for sale under the classifieds!!
AndreZA Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If this is your size, the search should be over. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=46091&PID=718952#718952
