Idiot's guide to swapping pedals

Hello all,

 

Have the chance to test a mate's full-susser over the weekend in Ceres.

 

He's on SPD's,Shimano's - I'm on Crank Brothers...

 

Could someone please provide either a link or info regarding  "The Idiot's Guide to Swapping Pedals", so that I can do the necessary on Friday?

 

I remember reading somewhere that the thread runs in opposite directions depending on which pedal you're busy with...

 

What tools do I need, how do I do it, what do I need to avoid etc etc...

swap your cleats instead...

use an allen key(back of pedal) or a spanner (size is 15 or 16) then take the spds out and skrew in the CBs. easy

On SPD's it has an arrow indicating tighten just make you sure you loosen in the opposite direction. Don't know the 'CB' stuff yet, LittleBen just fitted some yesterday ......

I always understand?the direction issue?as follows (probably not terribly scientific...)

 

Pedal's unscrew in the opposite direction to pedalling.

i.e. pedalling 'tighten's?the pedal?into?the crank

 

so to remove - turn allen key opposite direction to pedalling direction

Swapping pedals has to be far easier than swapping cleats.

Only 2 pedals to unscrew.

There are normally 3 screws on each cleat ie 6 to unscrew.

 

Remember you also have to align the cleats properly when you put them back.

Ya, but there's no direction issue with the cleats, they're easier to access, and you can just draw around them with a magic marker before you take them off, so you know where to put them back

First off - won't be swapping cleats, since I won't have my friend's shoes/cleats at hand (and no, I'm not borrowing his shoes either )...

Secondly, where in the blazes does the allen key come into it? I thought you only used a spanner? [Picture me sitting at my pc trying to remember what the hell the point where my pedals meet the crankarms look like...]

Some pedals only use an allen key.Look at the pedal and work it out
