From a mod's point of view, I don't think the role of moderator is that onerous, but then I make no special effort to be online regularly.  I don't believe it is necessary to actively moderate unless a complaint is lodged.  We get a dozen or so of those every day.  Admittedly Fattie was taking care of many of those before anyone else had a chance to.  It does become a burden to be a moderator if the community expects impartiality and for for moderators to not have an opinion.  In Fattie's recent case I would have responded to the complaints sent through with a simply F%& you by PM and carried on, but in my profession I am used to people seeing me as the root of all evil and source of all their problems so I'm used to it.

I think I would make a great Mod.  I am constantly purchasing or selling something on the Hub( much to the loved one's horror)  and I am on permanently. 

 

yes I have made a few risque posts and have had some removed, but with the responsibility comes an added sense of " doing what is right"

 

Matt, if you need me, I am volunteering my services.  Just think of it the first mod in Afkakistan.

 

And I have done my share of organizing hub rides.  Have one planned for Aug/Sep 2009.  Just getting my head in order regarding what where and how.

 

Maybe something for FORA this time,  or even an old age home.

3. he is willing (although this may count against him in many books)

All I can say Is that Im all for having one or two desidnated Tech moderators, as this is one of the few things on the hub that has a right or a wrong answer (in most cases) especially when Experiance plays such a great part. I often see a technical question being answered by some ego driven comments which is very confusing for the poor person who asked the question, and If thats the case then people wil eventually stop asking serious questions as they all get covered in mud sooner or later.

MY suggestion is to appoint one or two per section, and everyone for (s)hit chat, as it is the busiest of all the sections.

 

In my opinion the best moderators are those who are not seen.  Most people shouldn't even know who is a mod.  Another thing is that when a thread gets closed the mod should give a simple reason for their actions - here a lot of threads gets closed without apparent reason.
