....ouch.... I thought the idea of a "sponsor" and a "co-sponsor" is to bring the prices down...

tell that to the Argus and 94.7 people.

Argus still isn't 500 bucks a skull... not yet anyway.

At the rate things are going Im not doing the 94.7 or the Argus, I will rather do the more challenging events like telkom, race for victory ect.

MB at Groenkloof are still affordable.

(organizers are slowly killing the hen that lays the golden eggs)

Just realised they call this a CORPORATE challenge so that you can sucker your company to pay for it and then to screw SARS with the expense write off...

R10-odd a km?

How does this cost per kilometer compare to Sabie? Sani2c? and Epic?

Hey what's with the stealing my blouse huh? Angry

Did I?

Sorry.

Mate e-mailed it to me when i pulled out of a reserve ride.

Suspect he may have had a point.

Eish, R500  for 40k's, a t-shirt, Nando's chicken burger and a couple of cokes.

Think the organisers must be sniffing something good.

Perhaps it's time cyclists in general accept that no event organizer is obliged to offer an event that everyone considers "affordable".

As with any business there are calculated risks, analysis of demand and supply, etc, and it is the organizer's perogative to price as he sees fit, in HIS interests, not the cycling community's.

There exists a club mentality amongst cyclists that expects everybody to provide goods and services at rates and in ways that are "good for the sport"

WAKE UP! Your sport is their BUSINESS.

And no, I'm not an event organizer or related to one.

You raise a few interesting points, especially the one about the "club mentality" which I agree with.

The strange thing is that cyclists in particular are pushed relentlessly by CSA and the general media into this mind set of joining clubs where again the "discounted" idea is further enforced by incentives like discounted club kit, free magazine subscriptions, discounts in certain stores etc.

Anyway, I think this ride is aimed squarely at the corporates, not the everyday entrant - I wish them luck, most of the corporates I deal with have cut this kind of "team building" outing out completely.
