Anybody doing the CTCT this sunday on their retro / vintage bike?

Will be my first "Argus" on a road bike and first event on my old Bianchi.

Took her for a short spin yesterday just to check if everything is working well for sunday.

Nice bike, love the crank setup. I did the CTCT on my vintage Eddy Merckx last year but this year going a bit lighter with my classic carbon titanium Van Tuyl.

I used the Colnago Bititan in 2015 for the short Argus. (Just an excuse to post a picture again)

This year I just HAVE to ride the modern-retro Colnago C40 with a classic paint job. (Just an excuse to sneak a picture of it into this thread as well!)

I don't own any carbon bikes apart from my carbon/titanium Van Tuyl, but this old classic retro carbon Trek with the Campagnolo Shamal wheels really got my attention. It is fitted with an Easton carbon straight fork. The original fork came with the bike so I will refit at some stage. post-51655-0-82099400-1489001885_thumb.jpgpost-51655-0-86797600-1489002296_thumb.jpg

What a beauty! I'm doing the ride on this Felt "Red Baron" retro. Enjoy!

That Bianchi looks lovely Neill.

With Eroica the week after Argus, I am only taking one bike each for my wife and I so plan to ride my pre '65 Cinelli.

Wish I could ditch the helmet but that would be pushing it too far with the fashion police.

Eppie, recognise the old buggered Cinelli saddle? Finally found its new home.

Beautiful LC. Happy to see my old Cinelli saddle on that beauty.

Just as a matter of interest, HeyYou asked me yesterday what year and model this bike is. I thought mid 2000's, but I was surprised to find out that this is actually a 1995 carbon Trek 5000 OCLV.post-51655-0-68181800-1489219915_thumb.jpg

I popped into Woodstock Cycle works in CT on Fri and they have plenty of old bikes and frames available. Unfortunately you're paying legend tax though, the pricing is rather steep.

I got some bad news about the Alan yesterday. It seems the downtube-bottom bracket lug came loose. The tube can be pulled out of the lug completely and when you do that you can twist it and see movement somewhere in the head-tube lugs also. Yes, I checked, but didn't see it when I bought it. I suppose it wan't too expensive a lesson. The good news is that nothing is cracked or broken and the drivetrain and all components are in very good nick.

So, what to do? Seeing that I need a bike for my son to ride Eroica on Saturday!

Nils and Woodstock Cycle Works to the rescue!

We found a really nice Le Jeune frame in the right size in the rafters of the shop and they will build the Alans' Shimano bits over onto it by Friday. I like the idea of riding Eroica SA on a locally, Cape Town made bike, our first idea!

Then I have to decide what to do with the Alan frame. Google tells me it can be re-bonded with epoxy. I would assume that if you want to do a proper job, it may be a good idea to take it apart completely. Has anyone done this before? Which lugs are screwed and which ones glued? How to separate them? What epoxy should you use to re-bond? How do you align everything properly? Or do you only fix the loose ones?

Or do I sell is as is? With proper warning of course. Or do I just hang it on the wall? That would be a shame. If my youngster grows another inch, the Alan will be too small for him anyway.

Anyone wants to volunteer fixing it for me? Or just give some advice? If Nils says he has never done a fix like that, you know that not many people have.

This is what the Le Jeune looks like dressed in the Alans' parts! A real funky amazing technicolour dreamcoat of a bike. We'll change the white saddle and bar tape to black, the blue tyres to black, but I think we'll keep the red cable outers for a little colour accent to contrast with the green and black. I took it for a spin myself and it is a very nice ride. Solid, predictable and responsive, I was pleasantly surprised! Sorry for taking the picture from the wrong side, it was early, before I had my wake-up coffee!
