94.7 Cycle Challenge - First Water Point

According to the Route Info maps supplied on the web site, the first waterpoint  named WP1 - Jan Smuts Bridge, is located 26 km from the start, although we do pass underneath the same bridge after about 16 km.

 

Question: Can we stop and access WP1 for a drink on the way into the city center, or is the first free drink of water only earned after 26 km as we pass over the bridge on the way out of the city center towards Rosebank?

 

Just curious, for after WP1 the waterpoints are between 5 km and 9 km apart.

I don't thing you access the bridge from the highway, not on the day anyway, so you have to ride around. I think you should still have water in you bottles after 26km so you should make it.

Okay...seriously.... at 16km you should have plenty water left!! For a slow rider even that is like 45min of riding. If you finish a bottle or 2 by then you are going to have plenty loo stops!

If a water point so early is an issue, you may want to spend more time trainimg

Train a bit harder and you won't have to stop at any water point.

A portion of the field do it as a dare (like my first one in 2002), or

as their only race of the year. Training is not high on their agenda,

but completing the race ride is.

 

 

Irresepctive of the bike they do it on, they do it with little or no training.

 

For these people, 15Km/h is FAST (@15km/h = 6 hour ride), it would take about 1:45 to get to the first water point.

 

 

 

They also start after 09:00 and have to ride in the heat of the day.

 

Anyone who's done a second lap and rides with these types of "recreational" cyclists, will know that there are people who ride this slow fast.

Nope... going to bond with my hammock and maybe my camera on Sunday. And maybe clean my mtb (I have not cleaned the Tuli dirt off) if I am feeling extremely workified.

Why dont you let Cian and Jess ride? Or Jess and Name? Or Cian and Name? Sure it would be fun for the Thai kid to go for a little ride around Lost City!
