Has anyone got any news on the condition of the cyclists knocked down close to Klipriver (just before the steps) on Saturday morning?

Sad to have to hear about it, but even worse when you have to ride past an accident scene (while the EMS teams were there) and see the carnage for yourself.Frosty2007-04-23 04:31:59

Yes, please provide info. I need to compile this info to monitor if these signs (w309) that I have planted are working. It is obvious that there are not enough erected on this stretch of road. I will be erecting at least 4 more on or before the steps tomorrow.

I presume its the one that was on the 8.00 am news this morning.

Apparently the cyclist that was hit first is in a critical condition.

There were 3 of them in single file

Here's what I heard:

A car being towed by another ran into the back of 2 or 3 cyclists. One of the cyclists was pushed/bumped into the middle of the road, and was hit (from behind) by a white Nissan Sentra travelling behind the towed vehicle.

Hi That is incorrect. The nissan was travelling up the steps appraoching the cyclist from behind. There were no other traffic traveling coming down the steps and the cyclist was riding single file behind the yellow line. The guy in the nissan ram the last cyclist from behind and hitting the other two cyclist. The driver claimed he never saw them. One question though, Why did' nt other cyclist stop to help , they just cycled past as if nothing happened.

The cyclists all ended up in hospital with fractures and the like (Kruger from Gary Beneke cycles) bore the brunt of the accident and is in a induced coma due to the trauma to his face, several fractures. Thanks must go to the Germiston Wheelers guys that stopped to help for a while and to Gary who also stopped to help, Michael appreciated it.Once Fred or the other cyclist is able to tell us what happened I will post it. Not forgetting the motorist who phoned for emergency services Thank you.

On a sad note I am appealing to our fellow cyclists please treat ALL CYCLISTS the same DO NOT BRING COLOUR INTO IT as the third person knocked at the scene on SAT happened to be white as well.

big al, sounds like you know more than most... who were the riders and how are they doing?

p.s. good quetion about why other riders didn't stop. it's one thing to not greet fellow cyclists but honestly and truly, how do you live with yourself not helping in time of crises.

mallo, please pass my best wishes on to these guys and i hope they get better soon. keep us posted.

I was with Kruger and fred and decided to take the loop through NANA's and Kruger and Fred decided to go through Daleside. We would have meet on top of the steps to go up butchers hill.I was about 3 km ahead of them when the accident happened.

Fred is doing well , lots of pain and likely no broken bones.Neville broke his collar bone and was discharged on Sunday afternoon. Kruger is still in critical condition but is making good progress.FRed and kruger is still in icu.

just please please please tell me that the #$%^& driver is going to face charges?

(i think nissan drivers should all have to redo their drivers' licences and all nissans should come out with magnifying mirrors... the #$%^& who wrote off my car was driving a nissan and claimed not to see me)

Don't think for one second the group I was in didn't stop because we didn't want to help - by the time we rode past, the EMS teams were already attending to the cyclists. In fact, the traffic officials insisted that we move on. (Perhaps my initial post gives that impression.)

My wife will not stop at an accident scene if the EMS have stopped already.  She has helped at a few scenes, but usually if we are first, or if someone runs through the cars and asks for medical help.
