The newbie (unfortunately) got involved in a ride beyond her abilities - these things will happen - however, what was the point of the sweep vehicle if they didn't pick her up? That members of the club and sweeper vehicle took the approach of IGNORE her and she might just disappear. If Clubs, LBS's and any other business involved in cycling want to continue doing business then pucker up and realise by nuturing the beginner you'll have a BETTER chance of having a customer/client/member for life!! They want fast competitive young pricks who still live at home and mom makes them dinner, cos they are the ones who may win races and get their names into the media. They dont want fun riders, they are a hassle and usually out for a day of sun and friendship. They forget however that the fun riders has not only the money to buy goods they so blatently push at overpriced margins but is still the largest part of the market. I used to be competitive, but I am past that now, I am probably considered old, I see cycling as a time of relaxation, I dont want a mission to get to the next pole in 20 secs and I dont care that some 18 year old pimply youngster is going to beat me, however, I have a successfull business, free cash in abundance, lots of time on my hands and guess what, I dont spend it in cycling for this reason. Leaving a woman alone on the road is just plain ignorant, but typical of the testosterone fueled clubby atmosphere. There probably are clubs that will cater to her, but they are few and far between and I dont know them. Sorry for my aggressive tone but this attitude is prevalent in most clubs and just ticks me off immensely,........anyway thats my experience, nobody has yet proved me wrong. I would be highly upset if this happened to me at a Hub "social" ride! I am a member of a club but have never attended any of the group rides. I'm a mtb'er and their "slow" group avg is advertised as up to 20km/h which is faster than I think I am capable of. I mentioned this to the club when they sent out a survey asking for feedback. It seems as though a few posts implied that Rina may have been a member of Cycle Lab Supercycling Club. I would like to set the record straight, in telling you that Rina was not a member of ours and was also not on one of our club rides. I must say i never doubted the Labuschagne boets nor our club secretary David's wife Petro. Nor did i doubt Alan the vehicle driver as knowing Alan he would never had passed a lady out on her own. We have offered Rina a club membership as we would like to introduce her to club members of similar ability to herself and assure you and her that her next ride experience will most certainly be a very different one to what she has recently experienced. In my experience of running a club for 9 years and being in contact with many other clubs over the years, i can genuinely say that clubs have the interest of members at heart! They were all the same, we didnt like any of them. Nobody mentioned any club names that I saw, and what facts did we not know.? Damn,................... JB, you still feel like coffee.? Hi Mandibles where in Gauteng do you live if it is in Pta. you should check out epic cycles club rides you don?t even have to be a club member all are welcome and the pace is the pace of the slowest rider for te day, the object is to have fun, get to know other cyclist "fun riders" The usual group avg is around 17km/h<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
