Just a note to let fellow Hubbers know that Bertus Kruger was involved in

a serious incident during his ride with the Illovo group this morning.

We were going down Club Street in Linksfield when he stood up to pedal,

his foot slipped and he went over the handle bars at about 40kph.

He has sustained serious head injuries and was unconscious when

Netcare took him away to Union Hospital.

Thanks to all the Illovo guys who looked after him and kept him safe until

the ambulance arrived. Thanks also go to Netcare for their rapid response.

And **** you to the guy in the bakkie who swore at the car driver who

parked in the middle of the road to protect Bertus and us while we were

tending to him...

Eugene has just spoken to his doctor and the scan went well.

There is some bleeding on his brain, but the prognosis is

good - Eugene says most of the doctor's patients with this

type of injury walk out...

He is piped up and has been put into a coma until tomorrow

when we will hopefully get another update.

Looks like positive news!

It is always bad hearing about this and the guy in the bakkie is an arse. He might have been pissed off about sitting in traffic due to the accident but that still doesn't give him (or anybody else for that matter) to swear at people blocking off the road.

Wishing him a speedy and full recovery

Wishing Bertus a fast & full recovery. Thanks to the motorist who stopped and held protect everyone involved at the scene! And as for the driver of the bakkie... I hope he gets a bad cramp where it really hurts!!

It was horrible to watch and happened so quickly, what a freak accident. No touching of wheels, no cars - just shows that anything can happen to any of us at any time. Be safe out there, peeps. Most importantly, get better soon, Bertus.

Konstabel Maccelari - well done on taking control of the scene as usual.

is he ok - any news?

He is in a drug induced coma with face trauma, bleeding and swelling on the brain. More will be known tomorrow hopefully, when he wakes up. He is in ICU but was stable when I last spoke to Jeremy earlier today.

Latest from our sources:

News on Bertus, still in a coma. Will be kept in this

state least until Friday. Tomorrow (Thursday) will perform reconstructive

surgery on his jaw and face. Looking more positive than not, at present will

update you on Friday again.

His eye socket and jaw both require extensive work.

So now we wait...
