Northern Farm no longer safe to ride on your own

I've just received this email. Take note that today's incident was on the farm itself.

Dear Mandy,

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

There have been a number of incidents at or near the farm in the last few weeks. Regrettably this is a sign of the times. Last weekend cyclsists were hijacked near Heronbridge College, and a car was stolen form the farm. On Wednesday a cyclist was hijacked on the Hills and Dales road and today there was an attempted hijacking on the farm.

As I understand it, the perpetrator did not get away with the bicycle and was chased off by a farm worker. He was subsequently caught. The lady who was the victim of this incident did not hang around and we need her to urgently make contact with me on 0824148604.

We have placed a car guard at the car park and implemented patrols on the farm utilising young men from Diepsloot  who have been involved in the development project.

We strongly recommend that you do not ride on your own during this time and particularly the ladies and also recommend that you avoid the Hills and Dales road outside of the farm.

Regards

I agree Cat-i. I have spent a lot of time riding there on my own. Looks like I'm going to have to train on my IDT as I cannot risk doing long rides at the Farm anymore.

Glad no one got injured. I'm actually not surprised by the incidents though.

Thats really sad news. Thumbs%20Downlooks like they have found that cyclists are easy prey. Not sure how they are going to change their minds now. Well there is a way but we would go to jail before them.

Take care out there guys.

Teak Place? Suikerbosrand? Groenkloof? Some may be a bit further than NF but they seem reasonably secure...

I don't think any venue is totally safe anymore.

I'm currently training for a stage race and have to do 4-5 hr flattish rides on Sundays. Northern Farm was perfect for this. No matter where I ride, even if I start when there are crowds around it ends up quiet at the end of my ride.

Letting this happen is more upsetting..

Why must we be forced out of our sport, because of the criminals..???????

Why is nothing being done by the Authorities ???????????????????

Does a member of the local community have to suffer a hijacking or death before the situation recieves attention????????????????

ITS A SHAME AND A REAL DISGRACE, that innocent people are being attacked daily - and nothing gets done to prevent the attacks...

Never had any issues at Groenies or Teak, the Spruit nor NF for that matter, Unfortunately this does put a different spin on things at NF though.

I have seen (CSS) armed response patrolling NF before, given the proximity to Diepsloot and the growing popularity of NF I suppose there would be somone trying their luck.

I hope this was just an opportunist.

Pity the lady who was hijacked did not stay around, a description and some important details could have passed on to assist in preventing something like this in future.

Using the young chaps from Diepsloot to patrol the area is definitely a step in right direction!!

That is really ***. Have to agree with Newby, it is shocking to have to accept and live with this instead of demanding a fully functional police force out of our hard earned tax money - which we are rightfully entitled to.

Really sucks.

I've seen the armed patrols before as well but only on the inner flat loop.

Mandibles - here's somewhere safe... it's a bit of a drive' date=' though...

Thanks SteelyD. You're right about it being a bit of a drive! I'm jealous. I still remember your first post about this place and it is on my list of places to visit once I have access to a 4x4.
