I ride alesser Pinarello.

The Dogma will not make me go faster, but I might look faster and that is what keeps the industry alive...

Had a conversation with a fellow club member on the weekend and it went like this :

M(e) : Hey L..., I believe there is a new Colnago agent is SA again.

H(im) : That is tragic news.

M : Why do you say that, you are a die hard fan ?(He has a Master, C40 and C50HP)

H: Because I really don't need another bike.

If this guy had been a Pina fan, he would probably buy a new Dogma.

Would it be faster? No

Would it be a better looking? Maybe

Would he enjoy cycling more? I doubt

As a friend once said, from the saddle of a Bora Ultra, Campy Record specced Kuota Kharma once said :

"It is not abput how fast you go, it is about how good it looks when you are going slow"

@GO: Can you quote the abovemnetioned Colnago fan on a new bike -pm me.

ride a black carbon frame. no decals. with full whatever but no branding.  with full black kit. (but white calf length socks, of course) with 90mm deep section carbon tubs in a deep black. win the bunch or loose but always mantain a relaxed facial expresion.  Style is not about a price tag; not about abilty. Kieran is right - how good can you look going slow?

The funny thing is that I was a victim of the PRINCE fever. Paid the premium R55k at the beginning of 2009 for the frame and fork. Now, apparently the DOGMA retails for that price, and the PRINCE can be picked up for a lot cheaper now. (I've heard of ridiculous prices ranging from R39-R47k for a frame and fork...but thats heresay)

Dont get me wrong, I love Pinarello. Mass produced by some Taiwanese folks...does not for one second change my mind. I loved my PARIS, and in turn my PRINCE. Absolutely brilliant bikes.

Think of it like this...A Lamborghini Gallardo is 'mass' produced in an Italian factory by a German/Italian interest. Basically its a glorified Audi.

The Ariel Atom...handmade in the UK by a bunch of genuine car enthusiasts. Its quicker to 100kph, will literally drive rings around most sports cars, and considerably cheaper too.

Now answer honestly, given the chance which one would you have? Like the bikes in question, few of us have the ability to do them the justice they deserve. But its sure nice to own one.

Shotlegs, the Spec's SL3 is a super hot bike. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it a 'Super bike'

someone mentioned the new scalpel with XX etc......surely with all the suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, tubeless wheels etc there's more technology in that bike than any road bike and yet I still am waiting for a a 150K mtb?

roadies will always pay more for less technology....

for that money I'd prefer to sit with a custom frame build and have something beautiful custom made for me.....

GO, I have absolutely no problem with stuff made in the East. In a lot of cases, I think they produce superior quality than places like the USA, for example.

But everything seems to indicate that the big price on the Dogma is not justified by it being vastly better in terms of mass, stiffnes or comfort. It is also not produced by expensive labourers.

[/quote'] I am sure 's nice to own one.  Hey, I love the look, ride and pedigree, and wouls also like to have one, but the ridiculous price is just not justiied.  Probably also unfair to compare a Gallardo with a glorified go-cart.  Rather ask if you want a Gallardo or a McLaren F1.  Both great, but very different.

Plus you get lots of technology, speed and handling with a top end car which you cannot compare with the bicycles.  You can get the same and even better figures with much cheaper, TdF pedigre bikes than with a R150k bike.  Seriously, just think about it:  R150,000 for less than 2kg's of resin tubes. Just nuts!

Guest colonel

I agree with WH its big money but I will still say wether its worth the money or not is irrelevant, if you want it and can afford it then buy it. Simple as that. If someone has bought it, then be happy for the guy.
