Yip, that gravel rider really got a few shouts! The motorbike marshal did although I saw very little of him but then I tried to stay more to the front of the group. I think that the group stay too big for him to really handle so he definity had his work cut out for him!

Hi Martin,

I have to say that I was 'dissapointed' to have to stop at the junction (no abuse from me though) - but it was the only one I had to stop at.

By the time I got there, you were obviously stressed - to the organisers, perhaps an 'advance marshal warning cyclists that they had to stop might of helped - I got there when the light was red, but was expecting to go when it turned green, but waited for 2 cycles before we were allowed to go.

Slight Hijack - do you have any contacts for the organisers? We're trying to locate this guy - https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=76006

Cheers,

Dave.

The marshals are put in potentially dangerous intersections, with little help from the metro. As Scotty said, a turn here or there and the route could've avoided the rondebult/north rand intersection completely. Had a metro woman in the intersection on rondebult over the N17 highway who didn't notice an emergency vehicle with blaring sirens wanting to cross. We stopped and gave way. He thanked us and all she could say: 'Oh, sorry".

Nobody messes with the east randers and their mall shopping time.

Hi all ! A big thanks to all the marshals and everyone who helped this sunday !! Yes I am a " Boksburg Bomber" and ride our roads all the time ! There is only one rule in the "East Rand " - stop at everything ! Then work as hard as you can to make up time. This was the biggest challange that any marshaling team had to face - but you handled it fantastically ( due to the circumstances). I and the " Sunward Slipstreamers" thank you for everything. most of you guys gave up your race, as to assist for the day ! You guys were the " Champs" of the day !!

Martin, thanks so much to you and all the other unsung hero marshalls. I commed the U/16s who did the shorter distance so I don't know if I passed you, but I do my best to "wave" a thank you to every marshall  I pass en route when and where possible, although sometimes it isn't possible because at the back of your mind yu always have this feelin gthat some D-double-o-ESS may decide not to listen to the marshal and come hurtling into your bunch.

Respect and appreciation to you guys for a job well done yesterday - thank you!

Big up to the marshals of the race, specially at the 100km odd mark then at the major intersection, wont lie, i was pretty grumpy to be stopped for so long (a good 2 minutes) as I had just had a blowout of my rear tube at 77km (never changed a tire so fast in my life!) and was trying to make time up, but hey it was done for safety and the marshals did not have any control over EMPD

Time to go buy new tubes this weekend, not risking my front of about the same age to blow on Dischem

Rude' date=' were you in A bunch yesterday? We had the moron overtake on the gravel on the left and a few close calls at some intersections.[/quote']

I saw that too - couldn't believe what a chop that oke was.

yes' date=' that gravel rider was quite something. I was amazed at how many in the A bunch would cross the white line even with oncoming cars bearing down on them and not budge. dangerous. Our motorbike marshal had his hands full at times.[/quote']

Amazing how guys behave like idiots and go asking for trouble.

Thanks to all the posts here. I will take the Tri advice' date=' I always listen to tri athletes, and we are going to report 2 cyclists and lets see what comes of it. [/quote']

I'm not going hold my breath re CSA - they are not even prepared to take action against a team car driver who drove into a cyclist during the Fast One. But good luck anyway.

We can all do without @$$holes in the peleton.

Thanks to all the marshals who took time out of their busy cycling schedule to assist at the race . This is definitely one of the most thankless jobs around. We will be doing the same at the Carnival City Race. So guys a small " THANK YOU " will make any marshalls day
