no one has mentioned Sastre - does no one fancy his chances?

He hasn't had the greatest start to the year, but showed good form in the latter parts of TD Suisse - could be peaking at the right time??

Serious question - can you believe what you're watching and generate enthusiasm for performances that are likely, hours, days or years after the event to be discredited?

It is really good to see the racing and the razzmatazz around the event but does it matter that there's plenty of funny stuff going on?

It matters to me for sure - anyway, I cant get that excited over the TDF - personally I think its all glitz and glamour and marketing, most non-cyclists only know this event and so think its the best there is but I think all the real racing was done in the spring classics and the Giro.

101% I have to agree on Leipheimer.I would also pick him as a podium man.He looks to be in good form and he is a good all round rider and he's got a good team to back him up ,also tactically they will be perfect.

I find it hard to believe that no one picked Valverde as there no 1.He is with out a doubt the most talented rider in the bunch. Can't see anyone out climbing him and he has made huge improvements on he's TT.He also have got a very strong team behind him(winning the tour de suisse and Efimkin placing 6th).Only thing that counts against him is the fact that he hasn't finished the tour ,but he showed last year in Spain that he has what it takes.

I also would like to see what Shleck can do ,we know he can win stages but as a Gc contender in a 3 week tour he is a unknown factor.

Also hope Sastre will be good ,but he will have to be very good in the mountains to make up for his lack of TT ability

IanC you are wrong - Robbie will lose time while he stops and tries to bl1ksem a spectator! Big%20smile
No there won't be enough South African spectators for him to hear the abuse above the rest of the world cheering.

anyone , as long as they are French. the tour needs french winner. btw i'm most interested in the avg speed over the whole tour. the speed has just been going up and up, hows this:

1974 - Merckx (avg speed 35,6kph)

1980 - Greg LeM (avg speed 38,6kph)

1998 - Pantani - (avg speed 39,9)

1999 - Lance - (avg speed 40,2)

2005 - Lance - (avg speed 41,6)

<FONT face=Arial>So who's going to win the TdF?

?

?

Seems to me that the smart money should go on the guy in yellow.? It must be a lucky colour or something cos it always wins.

?
I've noticed a white jersey with red polka dots seems to historically favour riders in the climbing competition

Nice statistics on the increasing speed of the winners.

I'd like to think at least half of it is bike technology improvements, otherwise we should all be on Eddy's 1974 steel contraptions and save our money.
