 Is it really that bad?

Mojoman I did the 75km in 2007 ' date='  granted I really never trained much and I finished.

How much do you train ?
[/quote']

A fair amount (like 4 months worth now!), I was hoping to finish between 5-6 hours?

That sounds right, I did only one 50km training ride before and thinking like a roadie that I can easily coast through a slow 75 km . I  took nearly 7 hours- plenty pain involved.

I haven?t done the monster yet and my wife wants to come along. How is this ? Fees? at Buffelspoort? Is it worth going there for the day if you are not doing the race?

Can't remember much after the race, but the race organisers keep promising to up date the web page with things that will be happening there.

Also we will be staying at Mountain Sanctuary for the race does anyone know if there are good spectator viewpoints in or nearby MS as the Wife and my son would love to watch a bit of the race.

The route in 2004 went up to the reception from Utopia side and then down the main access road but might have changed since then.

There's plenty to eat (proper kermis food) and drink. They have a stage where singers perform, beer garden and plenty of citrus fruit for sale at give-away prices. Some home industry stalls. They have kiddies rugby- and netball day and watching the little ones play and the parent perform on the side line, is always fun.

WOW to say the least.Clap

I usually give my little girl those cheezy medals we sometimes get given at the end of a race , but this medal i am keeping in my bedside table drawer!! blood, sweat , almost tears i suffered all of these ..

Man what a ride the only place i was able to rest was on the uphills!!!

Those were the  toughest ,rockiest, most technical decents i have ever experienced ..

I really felt a sense of achievement as i crossed the finish line , this was an AWESOME ,AWESOME ride

Congrats to the guys who managed the 75km, i definitely have my eye set on this ride next year ..

This climb was where we were going to ..

And there in the distance is where we came from ..

the descent after this pic was awesome and extremely technical .

I saw many over the handle bars casualties on the upcoming descent!

I agree, that's why I suggested it to another hubber who said that there were no technical races in Gauteng. Anyway he said that it was not technical enough - Big talk if you ask me.
