As this was over a year ago, is there any update on the case?

I am deeply touched by the events I have read here, my condolences to you, the Van wyk Family.

This country's gone to the dogs.. I have no more sympathy for African people.. I know it's not good to generalize them, but too much has happened in this country for me to show any respect for them.

Spoken like a true D..S!

Read the thread - you will see it was a white guy who killed the cyclist. What has race got to do with this thread a.sh.le.

Hi Jasper

Unfortunately there's no news yet :( I guess we are still going to wait a long time...we won't stop fighting though!

Thanks for the condolences.

  • 1 year later...

Monique, once again my condolences to you and your family. It has been two years and I believe it would have been hard for you and your family. I am glad that you are saved the court case and I do believe justice was served.

I just hope that all SA road users, cyclists and motorists, take note of this. It is not a playpark out there. Our actions and attitude on the road affects other peoples lives.

Taking someones life on the road in a car crash is no joke, wether it was an accident or as a result of your own stupidity.

I wish the arrive alive campaing will change the, "Speed kills" to "Attitude kills"

Now he can continue rotting in hell

Condolences to you and your family, I cant imagine a loss is of a loved one in these circumstances, but justice like this im sure would make it somewhat easier.

My condolences, Van Wyk family. You have my respect and admiration for staying strong and for never giving up in your efforts to get justice for Merzanne. This latest development will surely leave you with unanswered questions, but take solace in knowing that your daughter's killer has been brought to justice (even if it was by his own hand) and that he will never hurt another cyclist.

Lots of guys call him a coward in the comments. Got to agree, a coward. And then some people still try to defend him "imagine what he was going through". Shame. The only thing that was going through was a piece of lead, and that's the least he deserved.

Good riddance, cyclists and runners everywhere are better off without his likes out on the roads.

Sad and tragic. Two families have lost a loved one. I hope that this go around and show to irresponsible drivers that you don't get away with bad driving habits. I don't think that justice have anyway been served, whether he has gone to jail for live, 10,20,30 years, because of one person two families lives have been affected in the worst possible manner.
