Dit pla my nie waar iets gemaak word nie, maar wel wat se back-up ek kry. Ek dink ook nie die Tatas, net 'n voorbeeld, is te aaklige karretjie nie maar wat AS iets verkeerd gaan. Selfde met enige fiets part, onderdeel of accessory.

I thought as long as it had a bell and a basket you'd be happy

I see someone had bird seed for breakfast.....LOLLOL

I dunno, it's gotta be annoying from the bike shop's point of view:

"will the colour go with my kit....where's the mirror....where's the early puddle warning system....and that bag under the saddle is far too small for my stuff"

Agree vit JB & Mampara. The questions to ask are:

1. Was it designed proberly?

2. Was it manufactured properly?

3. What backup support will I receive if something goes wrong?

Some folks prefer Cannondale, some Colnago, some Cervelo, some Felt, that will always be so.

How about buying a Giant and just have Cycleart paint it to look like a Cannondale?Wink

Crux's 'dale from cycleart looks like an early Rabobank Colnago with an identity crisis.

I know you said this in jest but to expand my point, that would be really sad. Doing that would mean you're not bold enough to publicly stand by your conviction that frame X is good enough for you. We had one such clown on our local squad once who rode a fake Colnago courtesy of Cycle Art.

It's one thing to, like in the recent Peugeot advert to aspire to something and dress up your box cart to look like a Peugeot, but quite another to take off all the badges from your Datsun and replace them with BMW insignia.

The sad thing about our Colnago clown was that the underlying frame was a De Rosa. How warped is that?

Shocked That is very very sad - esp because I like De Rosa

Christie' date=' unlike a Colnago, there is more to a Cannondale than just a fancy paintjob!Wink

I'm sure a lot of you guys know how it works. Usually the frame is designed in America or Canada or Europe, etc. Agents take the design to the different manufacturers in Taiwan and China with what they expect - meaning warranty, quantity, quality, etc. The manufacturer who can give the agent the cheapest price that meets the requirements, gets the deal. Even if the price is only US$1 cheaper than another.  Because they're gonna make let's say 50 000 frames that is a huge saving at US$1/frame. That means that some well known frames and parts come from the same machines. Like Oval, certain cervelo parts, Ritchey parts, Profile design, etc. are made at the same plant.  And I've heard people explaining how one thing is much better than another, when both are EXACTLY the same. Just a different label. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

So wat was jou rede om na die winkel te gaan?Iets te koop' date='of wou jy net die rep toets?

Het jy iets gekoop?
[/quote']

Nee, ek wou 'n saal gaan koop.

Ou toppie with a boep' date=' rubgy shorts, hairy legs and rocky sandals walks into a bike shop and farts around, kicking tyres and squeezing brakes.

Sales laaitie with shaved legs and slip-on takkies walks up to him and says: "Can I help you oom?"

Ja boet, waar is hierdie fiets gemaak?

Laaitie checks him out, takes a deep breath and starts at the front. The tyres are Vredenstein and is make in Holland. The tube is a Continental and made in Germany. The rim is Mavic and made in France. The spokes are SAPIM and made in Belgium, the hub is Shimano. It's bearings are SKF and made in Sweden, the hub is forged in a plant in Malaysia and the whole lot is assembled in Japan. The fork is Reynolds and made in the UK, the headset is made under license from the American company A-Headset by a Taiwanese outfit. The stem is a 3TTT and is from Italy, the bar tape is American, the brake levers is from Shimano and probably assembled in Japan, the frame is welded in Taiwan, heat treated in Malaysia and painted in the USA. The saddle is Italian, the pedals Look, from France, the chain is KMC, a reputable Chinese company. The brake cables are supposedly Shimano but actually OEM'd from a German manufacturer."

Outoppie, now with big eyes just starts to mouth the word "jussis", when the laaite continues." And what accessories would you like with that sir? I can give you a speedo from Japan or a HRM from Finland, some tyre sealant from South Africa and a pump from Taiwan.

Outoppie now realises he asked a smart-ass question and starts to fiddle with his cellphone, wondering if he can't make the thing ring, get it to beep an appointment or something. Luckily his wife walks in and shrills: "Pappa, jy weet jy mag nie in bikeshops ingaan nie. Kom dadelik hier!"

"Ja skat.".....

I spend quite a bit of time in bike shops and often have to answer questions on wheels and other technical issues. I seldom know how in-depth I must go. I can give the rocket science answer or just an abbreviated answer like "it's from America".

You have to ask yourself, in addition to what laaitie knows, how much time he/she has on hand and how much time they must reasonably invest in you.  Sometimes I clearly bore people when all I want to do is give a thorough answer.

You may do what you described up here, and also use the Lords name without respect. I was the oomie with the boep and fortunately I do know a thing or two more than the rep. He cheated himself out of a possible sale.
