No Towbar

Does anyone know if the non towbar carrier causes damage to the bootlid hinges in the long run because the way I saw it is that the weight of the bikes plus the leverage caused by the lenght of the top bar must put quite a bit of strain on the hinges Confused

Should I rather just fit a towbar and get the conventional one?

I've got one that hooks over the boot lid and I must say I can see a little ding where it rests.

My next carrier will be a tow bar with the Thule or equivalent stand up system. I've see how quickly it is to get the bike on and off with those.

Mampara' date=' what is the stand up system?[/quote']

This is the Thule one but Holdfast also makes one for half the price but heavier.

Also heard rumours about dents and damage to the boot....enough for me to let the idea go and I am busy saving up for a towbar and a Thule.......

Now......is it going to be the Thule or the Canon?  Unhappy

I got a rack that allows the bike to stand up, made by Trapezium.

Can get them from F P and cost approx a third of the Thule stand up one.

Thug - but I bet it needs a towbar?

Got a similar one from HoldFast also at a fraction of the price of the Thule. BrotherBen has the Thule, very nice though!

Also had a Thule no-towbar clip on, used it once and sold it for 1/4 of the price, damaged boot.  Fitted towbar and using Holdfast now. Much better!

I used the Thule ClipOn for almost 2 years without issues. 20070823_014409_24203.jpg

ditto, I've also had mine for about 2years, no damage, just place some rubbers where it makes contact with the car. I normally carry my Mtb and Gf's and the weight is about 23.4kg
