never rode the 94.7.......but wanna know if it is overated or is it actually worth doing it!

Coming from CPT

Depends on what you mean by "over-rated" - personally I think its a better, slicker race than the Argus, which is in my opinion IS "heavily over-rated."

If I had to make a choice between the two, it would be the 94.7 without a doubt.

I think you will enjoy it, its definately worth doing once or twice - cant see the altitude effecting you that much.

Soooooooooo, are we gonna see you there.........?Big%20smile

It does not come close to even the old Sanlam Burger race never mind the Argus . The Argus got it all for us fun riders , views , spectators , decent beer tents etc . 94.7 got altitude !

The 94.7 is slick and efficient, but lacks the atmosphere of the older events.  I have only done once and the vibe did not grab me.  I prefer the Argus as the hills are a little longer and the sea on the left is much better than the township on the left.

What's up with going back to the Sandton convention Centre for registration? Last year was frustrating: only a certain amount of people were let in at a time & parking was crap.

Who wants to shop at the expo if you just stood outside for more than an hour before they let you in the building?

I was one of those people who 'popped' out of work to 'quickly' collect their number.Angry

It's a FANTASIC event. Right up there with the Argus - as a must do.

Geez - I hope I never become old and bitter as some of the cynics on this site !

Personally - I think that riders / racers are becoming a lot smarter nowadays. They are defining their goals early and planning accordingly. If they know that they're working towards the 94.7 - they may as well enter it.... Good on them !!

Of the two 94.7 is the racer's race, the numbers in the Vets categories tell you that. The race also caters for the junior, u16 and vet ladies. The open bunches aren't as big in the Argus. The big crash in the C group in 2005 on the blue route cured me, fast 19 yearolds (who don't know bunch etiquette) on mountainbikes racing against the top ladies.

Argus would probably be great as a funride, views etc. But getting stopped for an hour while they land a helicopter is not great fun either, and the debacle at the finish......

One more thing is the arrogance of the organisers, that only if other race organisers use winningtime can they be considered as a seeding event. The events are then graded on difficulty and a formula applied. When Hyper 2 Hyper was a seeding event the formula they used to adjust your index would require a winning time of just over 1h50! Thats way over 50 kmh. I believe as an event it's peaked already. Done 5 lost the t shirts

That is because Winnigtime is the better timing system ! I fail to see the arrogance here . Very true what you said about 94.7 being a race for racers , but most of us like to do it because we can and then you race yourself . Ok I also race Daemon but it still all for fun . But I have entered the 94.7 anyway so I suppose I will now have to race it ?

Debatable point. fact is who owns the Argus, PPA and is moving in on CSA, also owns winningtime.

You can also ride 94.7 for fun. I did it last year with my 13 y/old son. It was awesome and there was not even one close shave. (only 250 odd in the xx whatever bunch).

R3.3million in race entry fees already wonder what percentage will end up at a charity door after expenses and the like paid out? The R30-00 levy will be interesting to see happen as only in KZN are they applying this rule strictly.

Wonder what entry fees will be like next year as almost all the big sponsored events this year seems to hit the R150-00 to R200-00 mark already
