The best upgrade you can make is to go tubeless. You can even do a Ghetto conversion on the same wheels you have there.

I did a lot of races (including the Attakwas) on a Merida Matts 20 V - thats as entry level as you can get! Did a ghetto coversion on the Merida / Alexrims and upgraded the fork to a secondhand Rockshock Judy.

Dude if you saw what the two african guys rode at the Joberg2Sea then you must know your bike is good enough! I watched it on TV is disbelief! They came 2nd overall if I'm not mistaken.

Great to hear that there are some black riders out there that are mighty talented!:) Even with limited means.

so i guess my question is if you guys bought this bike what would you improve first or would you improve at all??

thanks alot. here is the bike.

Great bike.

3 weeks and you are asking about upgrades, my bike doesn't even have suspension or gears, have fun and the reference to the two Kenyans at J2C, you should have seen the bikes they did the first Epic on.

Thanks guys, don't get me wrong I am extremely. Happy with my bike! I am just wanting to know if there is anything small that I need to or would be beneficial to upgrade. But I guess shoes and pedals are the next move!

I'd say do a tubeless conversion with the current tyres and wheels (dont get fooled by the shop telling you to buy UST stuff)so you dont het punctures

Then ensure its setup for you and the saddel/grips/stem/bar is comfy, change them if they arent.

Get some clip-in pedals like shimano spd and you should be good to go :)

I have a Gary Fisher with mid level groupset so no fancy frame or parts. Done many races with it and it has been great. Your bike is more than adequate for racing.

If you get into racing seriously and move up in the seeding then you can look at getting a new fancey bike.

yeah thats exactly what i am going to do, for now its working on diet and fitness, and then i really want to reach some personal goals. i would love to eventually enter some of the big races in the future.
