So CSA have re-revised the rules and it's now as follows:

Category 1 - Elite, U23, Juniors and Vets30-39 (top teams).

Category 2 - Top 150-200 Vets (not in category 1) by seeding (prize money to the to 10 (irrespective of age) and top 6 for woman.

Category 3 - Next 150-200 Vets by seeding - prize money the same as Category 2 for positions.

Category 4 - Next 150-200 Vets by seeding - prize money to top 5 positions.

The woman will slot into Category 2 or 3 depending on their seeding for each race.

This means that 50 spots out of the 150-200 in Cat2/3 will be replaced by the ladies.

Read more about it in the attached file...

I guess the A bunch riding in Gauteng will be more interesting going forward as it ill become the unofficial yardstick for recreational riding. Pantani will have to on the ball with regards the seeding ladder and points to be clear which races will count towards the seeding ladder so that we keep the playing fields fair.

A suggestion to all the A bunch teams in Gauteng why not start a sponsorship for this bunch based on the individual and team placing at the end of season start looking after yourselves seeing that the province and national body not interested. There is no extra work involved as Pantani has the process running smoothly already. Some terms and conditions will have to apply to keep the game clean such as strict adherence to " NO- CHIP NO RESULT-NO PLACEMENT; NO MOVING FROM CAT.RIDING TO A BUNCH TO BOLSTER TEAM POSITIONS.

Swift start the ball rolling with a small sponsorship of your favorite drink/bikes

what seeding are they going to be using?

I have no idea - but all will be revealed in the month of November.

CSA are meeting with one online event company on Friday, so hopefully we'll get feedback from them next week as we're ready to launch online entries for the 2011 Carnival City Macsteel National Classic this week.

I like the sound of this. Thought A bunch was already the yardstick of recreational riding :)

For the lazy ones that don't read all the pages in a thread... the latest (read 09/11/2010) version of the rules and regulations... Road Race Regulations (Top Clubs - Racing Categories) 291010.pdf

Version 3.0 ;)

I like this one the most thus far. Makes perfect sense.......

Now just maybe wonder how young talent is going to be harvested from this? They must form part of a team if they want to race Cat 1.....mmmm....

One question though.......Maybe to Frosty or anyone able to understand it.....

I will be looking at Cat 2 or Cat 3, depending on my seeding.......

Do I have to take out a "Racing License" to form part of Cat2/3?

The only info in the doc says:

Racing Licensing

Fee Structure is as follows:

o A member who wishes to race in CyclingSA “elite” categories or in National events can buy a racing license for an additional R350.

 This license is for all cyclists 17 and older. The Junior Category will therefore not be part of Youth as it has been during 2010

 Youth riders (16 and younger) will race on a membership in all racing events

o Applications can be done on www.cyclingsa.com from 15 Nov.

I would say, yes. Section B says:

Category 1: Elite & U23 Men, Veteran 30+ Men (Teams), Junior Men

Category 2: Next 150-‐200 full racing license registered riders. * Women Top Club Teams

Category 3: Next 150-‐200 full racing license registered riders. * Women Top Club Teams

Category 4: Next 150-‐200 full racing license registered riders.

I'm wondering whether you stay in the same category for every race, changing every few months or so or whether you get placed into a different category every time, based on the number of entries on the day e.g.

Race one has 800 racing licensed entrants for Cat2-4 and you are number 700. Do you get dumped into Open Seeded?

The next weekend at Race two there are 400 licensed entrants and you are 350. Do you now go into Cat3?

After that, Race three has 600 licensed entrants and you are number 525. Do you go into Cat4?

From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996): "Patience is a virtue. The ability to wait for something without excessive frustration is a valuable character trait." The proverb has been traced back to 'Piers Plowman' by William Langland.

The only thing that is certain... Open seeded remains unchanged, so for the masses out there, there is not need to be concerned.

I think (Hope) they class you as Cat 2 or Cat 3 and you stay like that for say 3 months and a reseeding takes place?

Well said Spidey!!!! can't agree with you more!

CSA need to be carefull how they go about all of this . Most of us are tired of there *** service and expensive race entry fees . most of us fun riders would rather go for a lekker weekend training ride with our buddies than slog it in traffic on a friday to collect a race number for some bum 90k race. All there rules and regulations are making alot of us lose interest in racing.....my2c.

I know of more and more fun riders that "pirate" organised races: they save the bucks; they don't have to worry about where they are seeded, they just join the start group that suits them. They time themselves...they don't care about the medals! When last have you seen anyone kicked out of a start group because they are not wearing a number? In the OFM I saw a father and son combination wearing short distance numbers but they were doing the full distance.

Cheats will be cheats. Not CSA's fault. That is PURELY upon the race organisation to govern that!!
