Its a hype and does buggerall for cycling. 94.7km for a professional field, what a joke. And now they wanna go into Joburg, which is one of the most dangerous cities in the World. wtf are they trying to prove? and for R275? Can't believe so many are suckered into it!!!

Think of it as safety in numbers... ;)

Have you ever cycled through JHB on a Sunday? It is dead quiet. I still say they need to organise a crit race in JHB on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. Great spectator points and it will be super fast as it is flat.

I guess it is a paradox calling it the safest race then?

Route changes for some races make it more enjoyable. I wonder what the Schleck Brothers etc think of the Tour route that changes every year? I think it is fine if races like 94.7 keeps changing the route but then the other races must try stick to their routes. 94.7 and Argus are not races to do for time. They are different races. You do races like R4V, Carousel, Carnival City etc for time on the same course. The bigger races a bit of change is nice.

Go through there plenty on weekends as well, Tumbleweed cycles there to work on a regular basis as do quite few folk I know.

As far as the taxi association goes, this is because the one year they had issues because the route designers hadn't taken into consideration a nearby taxi rank.

People would whine if there was no route changes as well. Damned if you, damned if you don't.

Ag, I dont care, for me and thousands of others its just a day in the sun.

The ride is just a means to an end. It could be a walk, a run, a rollerskate derby, its all the same - put on a smile, wear a pom pom on your helmet, stop at all the water points, eat lots of Bar Ones, smoke a cigar, flirt with the pretty girls, tell the folk manning the stand how great they are, watch them smile and enjoy that feeling, look for all the places you wanted to go to, but didnt know how to get there, have a massage, get someone to stand on the road with a beer for you, dont drink it in front of me unless I get one too, phone your wife from half way and tell her you love her - just go have fun, lifes too short to worry about routes.

Why why why???

Why why why not???

As Scotty sez it changes every year, and after last year's route, I'm glad it does.

Check position rather than time for comparatives. Even if the route is the same the time will vary year to year. Rain a couple of years back; steamin hot last year; wind blah blah blah.

I dont know what some people are on about, what other race in SA is going to offer full road closure (apart from the Argus)

I think its a great race

I don't have an issue about the route.

BUT I DO HAVE AN ISSUE ABOUT THE PRICE.

Next year it will be over R300, and I won't pay that on principal.

They are expecting 26000 cyclists this year. That means over 7 Million Rand, excluding sponsorships.

Why don't they spend some of that money on something that benefits the people that support the race.

How about putting a bit of effort into fixing cycling safety.

Someone is making a lot of money on this race, and has gotten greedy.

Metro Cop road closures. They've gotta fund those 15% pay increases somehow.

not too sure about argus entry....idont belong to a club so the extra license fee was also added...really cant justify R610 for a 2.5 hr road ride

2.5! Not too shabby!

I took my dear wife on the tandem for three 94.7's and the time got worse year after year lol. It's a tough ride when the stoker is not fit! 4 hours ride time! Maybe I got my money's worth then laugh.gif
