I was actually going to post a wanted add this morning for a torque wrench, pity CWC is out of stock on the BBB, anyone know when they'll be getting more stock or where else we can get one? other option is if we can get enough guys together lets put an order in with Chain Reaction? or if someone is selling their BBB I'll take it

You'll have to prise mine from my cold, dead fingers...

I'll also recommend the BBB - a fantastic unit for all the small bolts. Star tgetting into the habit of using it for your stem and seatpost clamps...

you can talk as much as you like!!! It will not tighten a seatpost clamp... ;)

Torque...now THAT is another story.....

maybe 20Nm???

There's a couple of PDF's floating around on the net with the general torque settings for carbon bikes, dont have the time to search Google now but if someone comes across it or has it maybe post a link here, you'd have a lot of grateful hubbers

In general if there are no recommended torque amounts on the components you can usually get away with the 4-5-6 rule....

Working from the front of the bike to the back -

4nm for the stem / handlebar bolts

5nm for the stem / steerer bolts

6nm for the seatpost clamp

Here is one I put together a few years ago. I took all the components I had and listed them, and then combined it with everything I could find on the net. The red text just indicates components that are fitted to my bikes for easy reference.

From what i've seen, on the MTB, i've got 2nm on the linkage bolts. Most of them are 5nm and seatpost was 7nm.

Road bike, seatpost was 5nm (full carbon) and i downloaded the spec sheet from Specialized which gives the exact torque values for each point, very useful and not a generic thing.

I also rate the BBB, saw 1 at a friends, nice little kit, it has all the bits, i got a Teng about 6 yrs ago already. Cracking a Carbon seatpost is expensive :( I'd hate to know what a steerer, stem or handlebars would feel like broken in your hands when u push down hard in a sprint or climb!

I think 90% of bike shop mechanics don't torque their stuff properly, they just guess?

Johan from Yellow saddle sells them and offers to calibrate the unit periodically.

If the unit is out by a few Nm it could be the difference between a really tight seat post and a new carbon frame.

This IS the BBB wrench for R599 from Chris Willemse Cycles...will only take like 2 days to get to you too :)

Agree. I've also found that buying tools locally (guys Cape region thing) is cheaper than getting from over the big pond and quicker.

Even Parktool has so far been cheaper at my LBS than CRC.
