hi all,

I've ridden SPD's, Times and Candy's. After running the Times and the CB Candy's (both have much better float than the SPD's), I'd not go back to SPD's. I recently attended a Cadence cycling class, and SPD's are the pedals in use. So, not having a 2nd pair of shoes, I used a set of SPD pedals on my MTB until the end of the class (8 weeks). Compared to the Times/Candys, they were terrible!

I've just ordered a set of Time's, and I was hard-stuck between the Times, the Candys and the Looks. Doing some research on mtbr.com, I found that the Times had the highest ratings, with the weakness of the Looks being the springs, and the Candys apparently have durability problems (always look to reviews from several people. One review is not enough to make a decision)

Both the CB and the Times have similar feel, and both are far superior to the SPD's. I made my decision on reliability. I can't comment on the Looks, but they are def the winners in the light weight category.

If there are riders out there with problems with the Looks: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=578353

How do the CB Mallets rate? i know more for free ride, but also with clips in the middle?

I ride with mallets - no problems, all the advantages of the other CBs, just a bit heavier but better foot support

i really disliked the float in the eggies, I now have had Candy SL's for a long time and I am gatvol of them, they need rebuilding every few hundred kays, I have one rebuild kit left and will swop pedals after that, they are probably the most maintainence needy pedals out, they only have one bearing in the pedal so they will never give you many trouble free miles. I will go Time Atac or Look Quartz nect time round. That been said the Candy's atre great pedals to ride and the mud clearance is great, the only reason why I am going to swop is that their innards do not last long.

I don't know about Time pedals (they look like the same concept at CB and Look Quarts) but non of the CB models (or Look Quartz) have any float. I think you are confusing release angle with float.

I've used Shimano's SPD, and in my opinion they are sh*t, to say the least! After only one ride, a brand new set looks worn and tarnished, and the cleat-in is rough, especially if they have seen some mud. After my convertion to Crank Bro's Eggbeaters, I will never ever use another pedal!

pedals seems to be as personal as saddles...SPD's because they are bulletproof, yes they are not light but I can't stand the eggbeater "float" feeling as well as rebuilding them often becomes a hassle
