This topic has the making of a big faait. And since we're going to barney over it, I may as well pull a punch and ask how can anyone in their right mind want to control the front brake with their left hand? It is....dare I risk it....stupid!

JB, I am right handed but have my front on the left. My first bike was like that (actually the first was back pedal brakes) and when I got racer it was left for everything in front and right was for everything at the back. The housing looks better aswell.

I agree, and for the same reason that my first bike was also setup with front-left, back-right. Riding the other way around would "feel" wrong. Personal pref I suppose

If you have decent hydraulic brakes on board strength should have little say in the matter.

My MTB bottle cage opens out to the right and I generally use my right hand to drink anyway (on my road bike which is a straight up bottle arrangement) so I like to have my left hand on the back brake while I'm drinking, if i need to slow down I do not want to find my chin on the tar or gravel as I lock up the front wheel....

This comes from a past experience when my new bike was set up front brake left.... VERY quickly changed it.

Its not a matter of strength but co-ordination. Front braking is more effective and much more of a "feel" which is why I keep it on the right. But then its always been like that. I think after years of riding it becomes a handedness thing so you do what you are used to.

Thanks to Ngala24 I've always had my front on the right :D

Was my old bike setup like that, I now ride the otherway round and have no idea when it changed
