I bought the Joplin 3 because that is all I could find and I hadn't heard about the HUB yet...(looking online and found it at CRC) There are others, but finding them to purchase was a mission. I wasn't prepared to pay LBS prices either!!!! I would have liked this one

KS Cobra i900 5" drop

Anybody got any ideas where to get this one?

Cheaper than CRC (after shipping, vat and palm slapping)

Rock Shox Reverb - Just been released, but it's RS, so one can expect good things

Gravity Dropper - I have 3 friends with them (all non-remote models). They love them.

Crank Brothers Joplin - I've heard many reports on these bugging out. Apparently they're high maintenance, and develop some side-to-side play after a while. At CRC prices, they are the cheapest option. But maybe not the best.

But as Grebel mentioned... there is another option...

The KS i900 range (or i7 for those running a 27.2mm seatpost, in which case CB and RS don't make an option for that size)

if you want to see how the Crank Brohers Joplin 4 compares to the KS... read some user opinions on here: user reviews

Plus I've seen in many UK and European bike mags that the KS gets great ratings.

Too bad none of them are 27.2mm - I could sure use one.

The KS i7 and one of the Gravity Droppers are 27.2mm

I have a KS i7-R on it's way :D

Grebel, you can get the KS range from International Trading in Greenside.

so how much does one end up paying for it once it has landed with taxes etc.. ?

well... that depends...

...I just checked CRC and they only have Joplin 4's. The Remote option is R2068 (before VAT and Shipping, no duty on components)

So landed (assuming one uses the cheapest shipping option) one is looking at about R2470

Gravity Dropper remote versions are a bit more expensive. (also from CRC)

And the KS ones, I was quoted R1942 Ex Vat. for the i7-R that I ordered... so price wise they're a good deal!

I've got a 27.2mm Gravity Dropper. It workes very well but I eventually took it out because it does not really work for the flattish riding I mostly do.

very informative post, thanks, I found that taking taking a bump at the right speed basically results in the seat kicking you up and over, and it will be nice to drop it for some technical descents BUT as mentioned at 2k a pop it is a bit pricey for something that you don't use every day.
