Dit was nou n LANG dag ....

Net na 9:00 by Giant in Durbanweg ....

Mike is n GOEIE verkoopsman !! RESPEK !  PUIK diens.

Daar is mos twee fiets winkels langs mekaar.

Sal more n paar fotos neem ....

Nou moet jy hom vir 'n spin vat.

PS: Jy ry die regte 'brand' kar.  ;)

Great bike, that trek. You'd have been fine with the camber or that tbh. The anthem IMO is too XCM focussed for a middle of the pack rider and the trance would be the better option, unless you're going for the 120mm 650b anthem.

Speaking to Marnitz at CWC we looked at various bikes.  The Canondale option was a decent contender ... NO fault on the specs .... yet it left me "cold" ..... strange how some bikes stirr your emotions and another does nothing.  There was a previous generation Momsen (older alu-frame FS - now they only have Carbon in FS) ... that thing moved my soul.

Back to the TREK -

- The colour scheme works for me.

- The seating position WORKS for me.  A very relaxed upright position !

- It is a LONG bike (need to make some adjustments to the Thule so the bike dont so far out to one side of the car)

- nice long gap between the pedals and the front wheel.  This was not even on my shopping list, as I thought all bikes would be similar with this.  With the Merida I had to be careful that my toes did not clip the front wheel (yes, my feet are forward on the pedals ...)  With the TREK this is no longer an issue.

- nice long travel shocks front and rear --- thanks to advise received here I was happy to see this.

- nice low stand-over height

- did I mention that nice seating position ...

- This bike has a "smile factor" ...

Thanks.

JIP, sommer more oggend VROEG gaan ry ....

Yup, would've been a no-brainer for me were I looking to spend 30k on a new

bike. I mean you get a flippen Pike on this bike!!!

If only that Danie wasn't such a good salesman  ;)

(I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the Trek Chris)

Thanks Pyka

Actually some really nice "entry level" bikes in that price range.

For better or worse, I am still old school ... like to "See and feel" the bike before buying.  Short of testing a friends bike and ordering similar, I have to go to the local shops - of which we really have many options locally.  And as I do many kilos for work I get to window-shop at many different bike shops ....  Cycle4Life has left a good impression over the last year of window shopping - which may be why I drove past two other TREK outlets ....

I do appreciate good service, and am willing to pay a reasonable premium for this.

It seems that the over 40's are mostly old school 26" hardtail brigade.  I suppose as you get younger you get softer, as Ertjes was apt to say just before he launched an attack "Is ons hier on fiets to ry, of koekies bak?"

Is it really mtb riding when the bike does all the work? (A steel HT 26" works for me)

It seems that now Mtb riding is almost as much fun as road cycling, similar size wheels, similar gearing and extra suspension to take the bumps out of the trail.  Almost enough to ask "why did we leave the road in the first place?"

So the happy medium is to get a cycle cross bike and stay on gravel roads.......

Makes sense Chris. The Trek is better suited to your preferred type of riding anyway. Many happy km's and next time you're in Paarl it better be on your bike so we can go for a ride.
